Hi everyone, I'm 22 years old and I've recently been diagnosed with bpd and although I kind of already expected it I'm still a bit overwhelmed. I have only told two people, my girlfriend and my best (and only) friend who both already suspected it. Nobody else has any idea and I'm scared to talk about it with my family so please tell me I'm not alone!! I feel like nobody really knows me and they all just think I'm an awful person and as much as I want to explain what's going on I have no idea how to.
I've been referred to a psychiatrist and I'm going to start DBT; what are your experiences with it? Has it helped you significantly?

Hi,
Your not alone in being scared to tell people of your diagnosis. It's best to tell people when you feel ready and with friends only those you trust. Welcome to the forum, I hope it helps you being on here.
Take care

Welcome clementine!

Same here, it's really hard to talk about your diagnosis. But sometimes with the people who matter it turns out not to be as bad as you think it will be.

Hello clementine, you're definitely not alone in this. It is difficult to talk about these personal matters with people, especially if you feel as if the trust might not be there. That's okay, just take your time. And you're not an awful person, I can tell.

I have had some experience with the DBT, yes, and I found it to be good. The results may vary from person to person but at the end of the day it can be effective, for sure. I've heard people say it was really great.

Grats on your first post and good on you for reaching out!

Hello :)

I am 24 and have been diagnosed for about 3 years, its weird at first but eventually you just accept it as part of you, its hard telling people, especially family, I still do not really talk about it to my family.
Just take it slowly and there is no rush to tell people, just take your time x
