hi so i saw my gp with symptoms such as hallucinations anger depression and so on
she refered to see a psychiatrist.
a few weeks later i got a call asking me questions i guess to see if im ill enough to see one and she said i will send out a letter for a appointment to have be assessed.
anyway i got the letter and ive got to see cmht.
i was just wondering what the first assessment is like
would i possible get a diagnosis so i could start getting treatment?
my health is quite bad with hallucinations visual and auditory starting about 6 months ago.
thanks

Hi, the first assessment is usually used to take a history from you, of your physical and mental health, background etc. They will likely ask you about current symptoms, what treatment you've had to date, what help you think you need, what helps, doesn't. Sometimes there will be a psych and a member of the cmht to do the assessment, sometimes just one person. They usually go back to discuss with the team and then decide what they can offer. Good luck x

you always get asked the same questions by everyone. it is annoying but you just have to get used to it.
when i had an assessment i talk to some sort of nurse and it was just like what catkin described but he told me i would be offered 20 weeks of cbt at the meeting. i 'just' had depression and social anxiety at that time though.

I seem to have had lots of these. Found it very tiresome asking the same questions over and over.
The last one had a twist, strangely enough they sent me a copy of the letter they sent to my GP.
I rang the assesment team and demanded a written apology and that the letter and notes taken be removed.
The notes taken were ridiculous, accusing and down right insulting.
If I have another of these I will ask for the notes to be read back to me.

Sorry, bit of a rant. I have finally received some therapy, although the therapist is now going on holiday! :scratcheshead:

I got dx with depression initially by GP and prescribed meds quickly many years ago, but proper assessment, accurate diagnosis and suitable meds has taken much longer. It took years to get to therapy the first time :(

My first appointment at the CMHT was with a psychiatrist. I had an assessment with him for about an hour and half. He then sent a letter to my gp with the diagnosis etc, and sent me a copy as well. I think it was him that referred me for counselling.... or it might have been the second one.... but either way it took about six months or so for the counselling to start.

it's always waiting..... have an appointment with the gp.... wait...... have an appointment with the CMHT.... wait...... have some counselling and get referred on again..... wait some more.....

I had two appointments with nurses at cmht who did all the paperwork, and then one half hour appointment with a psychiatrist. This took around six months after I returned home, I suffered my psychotic break largely away from home at my mothers place, and eventually they gave me a diagnosis of "psychosis nos (not otherwise specified)", which is a cop out and just says "it seems to be some kind of psychotic illness but we have no idea exactly what".
