Feeling alienated from others

When I'm around people it increases my self consciousness to the point where I am a great listener but worried people find me strange
The thing is I am strange
Strange to myself.
I go and meet up with friends for coffee and during the break I went out for a cigarete
I just walked out
Then I came back and everyine was looking at me funnily and one said oh are you ok we were worried about you
I just needed a cigarete
But I think walking off like that made THEM uncomfortable.
I'm so lost trying to make friends people meet for coffee but nothing ever sticks
Thats it I never think people like me
I know that I covered it in therapy but it still is part of who I am I went to my other grouo and a wise old man called Colin said that just being you is enough
being you in yournown is lonely though anyway heres my rant.

I completely empathise with you Twokiwisandabanana. I spend a lot of time on my own, don't have any real friends and am permanently convinced other people don't like me, even family. It only takes eye contact and I begin to get uncomfortable. I have had some CBT sessions focusing on mindfulness and I feel they helped a lot and I tend to go out in public more. I've just recently been diagnosed with schizophrenia and wonder if all the above makes up a persecution complex and maybe bearing that in mind can help me calm down all the over analyzing and worrying about every little move I make. I guess what I'm saying is I don't think you're strange. There are plenty of us who understand how you feel. I hope my little posts helps a little

That's a common misconception that many People have … (Even those without Schizophrenia) … After reading the popular book "How To Win Friends And Influence People" Being a good listener is half of the equation of being a good communicator.

I no exactly how u feel.im diagnosed schizotypal and people most of my life have thought of me as strange due to my beliefs and thoughts.being around others except my family gives me great paranoia and anxiety so i more or less live like a recluse in my own comfort zone cos always feel others will never understand me or my personality disorder.hope this has somewhat helped.
