Maybe you should do a little overtime once you recover. Get well soon.

I can tell youre a good person just by the fact that you feel this way. Please remember that your health and happiness matters just as much as anyone elses.
If you aren't feeling well and you push yourself too much you'll be little help to your boss and collegues in the long run. Your boss probably has other issues going on at the moment too. It's not all your fault. At all.
When you feel better do your boss a favour. For example, take on an extra responsibility or task, cover for a collegue when they're having a day off, or do something simple for them like bringing them a coffee during break.
Good luck

You mentioned that you usually take the overtime that is offered, but this was the first time you refused. That's normal & as long as you're fulfilling (at least) the minimum amount of hours required then there's no reason to be concerned.
I'm not sure of your employment situation with the company, or your contract. But most employers know that not every employee can say yes to all requests for overtime.
If you're concerned about your job security it could be helpful to have a private word with your boss.
Furthermore, as long as you perform the tasks you're given to a satisfactory standard and you're courtious then that is all anyone can ask of you.

I'm just like this too, with my driving instructor as well. Both you and your boss should be kind to yourselves. If you can, get that worry and place it on one of your shoulders. Tell it to sit there and be quiet. Focus on feeling better physically and you can deal with the work stuff on Monday.
Keep hydrated, take a nice bath or shower, cuddle up with your favourite programme or watch nonsense on YouTube.
I'm confident you will know what to do when the time comes x

if they are short staffed they are not going to get rid of the staff they do have.

Hey :)

That's okay! Of course, it's natural to feel like you should be at work when there are staffing issues, but there's only so much you can do. Management will sort that out - you won't be able to cover everyone's work, otherwise you'll fall ill and they'll have even more issues. Spend some time to get yourself back to fitness, and then they'll have a good colleague back on the team!x

Much love <3
