Fear of vomiting or am I being ridiculous?

I struggle with binge eating and one of the things I experience often is extreme nausea due to overeating. I get extremely anxious when this happens and sometimes have anxiety attacks and can’t stand being around other people who vomit. I don’t think it’s a phobia of mine and doesn’t interfere with my life but I wanted to know if any other people experience something similar.

I am sorry to hear you have BED. I have it myself and like you, I fear the act of throwing up. I found it very helpful to have treatment at an eating disorder centre. I have now been binge free for a few years.

I just feel as if BED is one of those eating disorders which people frown upon because it causes weight gain and they tell you “just stop eating” and think people who have it are just finding an excuse to eat as much as they want and not be blamed for it. In my experience, my family has really only recognized anorexia as a valid eating disorder so throughout my life it made me feel terrified to get help.

It is sad when people think BED is not an eating disorder. I too have been called lazy and things. BED is a recognised eating disorder now and there is help available. I can understand you feeling afraid but a specialist will understand.

I am currently seeing a therapist but I’ve never thought of going to a clinic. I live in Italy and I don’t even know if those exist here.

You could have a quick search on a search engine? Maybe you could talk to your therapist about it too.
