phobia if slowly sinking down in very deep dark water, not knowing whats under me. or around me

is this a rational fear or irrational phobia?

seems like it would be pretty scary to anyone

It's a pretty common fear. Humans feel most comfortable when there's land under their feet.

We can swim in water regardless of depth. Sure in a storm it is more dangerous.

It's a bit irrational. But, I have it, too. Deep sea camera footage freaks me out.

OK if you are sinking because of some weighted chain wrapped around your waist - that is a rational fear. But if I was in deep dark water sinking I would simply swim up.

I never really liked water but never thought I had a fear of it. One summer I went out on a boat with a slide and it put me deep into the water. Coming up i realized. I dont know how deep this water is, i can't see down into it. I started to feel so paniced. So I guess that when I realized I had that same fear lol.

I used to get scared when swimming in lakes... I always thought something would grab me and take me under

It's strange/interesting this has come up. I always had that fear that if the boat sunk, and I a m onit, and I can't swim, thankfully not, and I have done 6 cruises now! Unbeliveable, I have done so many and been aboslutely fine, each time.

Yes, me as well, I also prefer with land under typpically if on aricraft holiday traveling, I generally don't like sea water at all, owing to kind of sea currants at the time.

I have the same phobia. I'm especially scared if the water is totally calm with no ripples.

My greatest fear is that I'm in a body of dark water and I have my smartphone on me and it will get ruined by the water!
