Hi all,
So I'm sat here waiting for a family support worker to come. I just wondered if anyone had experience of this? I know she's going to ask that question 'what support would you like' and I don't feel well equipped to answer it!

I'm too late here as I've only just seen your post. Just wondered how it went with the family support worker. Did the appointment go okay?

Thanks, it went ok - she's coming back tomorrow to work on some goals to set. She did however mention a cpn - seemed surprised that I didn't already have one. If I'm honest I think it's been mentioned before by my gp and pdoc - I was probably meant to do something that I forgot to do!
What do cpn's actually do????

Glad it went okay. Hopefully it will help you a lot. a CPN will be able to offer you additional help and support. I looked on the Mind website and it says a CPN is the same as a CMHN. This is their definition:

A community mental health nurse (CMHN) is a registered nurse with specialist training who works with you if you receive community-based mental health care (i.e. care outside of hospital).

The role of a CMHN is very wide and can include:
counselling or anxiety management
exploring coping strategies
helping you with day-to-day life
administering psychiatric drugs such as injections.

I hope that helps a little. It sounds as though you're in good hands and will hopefully be able to progress well with the support you'll be receiving. :hug1:
