Is there any you can do sitting down? My local gym has classes for elderly who also have hip problems. But its a really difficult situation to be in, my sympathies.

I have a balance problem so find exercise difficult and used to do chair based yoga. The only problem was that I was the youngest one there and I’m not young. The other thing that would be good for you would be swimming.

I have a deformed L hip which means I can't manage something like running. I can manage cycling on a static machine - maybe you could give that a try as the lack of having to weight bear may enable your hip to take the stress, as it does with me.

thankyou for the suggestions,
local gym sounds interesting , needs money though !

Daffy I would not worry about being the youngest here
I have often been the youngest on things !

swimming I also cant do
because it drys my skin too much

cycling on a static machine also interesting
if the gym is affordable

another thing I need to explore is getting a smart phone,
because currently I'm carrying a camera, a recording device, and a Nokia phone,
plus spare batteries for the camera !
my heavy bags are also not good for my hip

I would need to fit a SIM card that does phone only
because I dont want to be on the internet when I'm out
and I also cant afford it at the moment,
to buy a smart phone, or to rent one
I dont know how people afford all these things

and my family are already helping with other stuff

sorry to hear of peoples other injuries

@Zoe1 what about a stationary bicycle as you can drop on 2nd hand ones or one of these, which you can alter also for the strength of your stepping.

My rheumo mentioned swimming to me but what he didn't know is that i'd been banned from a few public pools in the past

Well where ever you are those are ideal for in your home and at your own pace..moving your legs and helping your hip but look for 2nd hand as you can drop on them here in the uk  Abby

thankyou Abby

thing is I have dug myself into a bit of a hole,
a few months ago I reduced the exercise
because I thought I was addicted to it
and I'm really regretting it now,
because I put on weight, and its now difficult going up stairs and hills
which was my favourite form of exercise

my hip has been so painful
yesterday I could hardly walk ,
I was trying to thing of the older generations
how they used to say to ' soldier on ' and not feel sorry for myself !

seems to help , well with physical stuff anyway !

:peace::love:

@Zoe1 I have one of these in the home and my knee caps went I me as I mentioned earlier and last night hubby got it for me and I was going up and down on it but supporting my body weight on the wall, I only did about 8 but that was enough and if it can help my knees to strengthen i'm going to use it, as we've got no stairs
