Sorry there has probably been numerous threads about this but....
Whats the difference between E.S.A and incapacity benefit??

ESA has replaced incapacity benefit for new claimants, and eventually those on IB will be switched over to it. As far as I can tell, it's pretty similar but maybe with more hoops to jump through - I had to go to a couple of "Pathways to work" interviews which were really pretty pointless as I was self-employed, and then of course emigrating made it even more pointless. There is a big form to fill out (of course) - but prob quite similar to the DLA one, and I had to go to a medical as well which again seemed a waste of time - I would certainly advise you to take someone with you for that - but the interviews and so on didn't start until I'd been on it for 3 months or so.

Thanks for that advice - though the medicals and interviews sound a bit daunting!!
