Do your eating habits change at all when manic? I'm looking at symptoms online and it doesn't seem to mention anything.

When I'm manic I don't eat. I feel so satisfied by my energy and interactions with others.

Yes!! When I am very manic I don't eat (lost 5lbs last week!) The thought of food doesn't sound good. When I'm in that state I have an aversion to chewing food. It's more the solid food I can't even think of. I just feel so good it doesn't matter!

Usually for me it's about 3 days of feeling that way.

I can't even cook when I'm that terribly manic! I use to attempt, but now my kids are old enough and I just tell them I can't tonight!!

I eat like crazy when hypomanic - everything tastes so amazing, heightened sensory overload ; and I can go a long time without eating when in a depressed state - lucky if I can get Kraft Dinner made, even more lucky if I have the appetite to eat it after. It makes it hard because my boyfriend and his mom do not know my diagnosis (too early in the relationship to drop that conversation), and she cooks so much and is like eat! eat! This is fine if I am hypomanic, as it all tastes like heaven on my tongue (she is an amazing cook!), but when I am low I only pick at my food and my guts seize up no matter how delicious it is. My brain says eat, not to appear rude, but the body refuses to cooperate and then I feel nauseous. Already my boyfriend (of 6 months) has commented on how he has noticed periods of where I do not want to eat as I usually do, so who knows maybe that Bipolar conversation will be happening sooner than planned.

when i was in my teens, i couldn't stand the smell of breakfast food or go near anybody who was eating breakfast, it made me wanna throw up. i had so much anxiety then. its different now, i have to watch my weight. im not overweight but i have no control unless i just remove food out of the house, that way i have to go get it at the store, its a hassle but it works.
