Ive just had my 4th psychotic episode and now have to report it to the DVLA.

The other episodes were unreported and so im not happy about it atall.

Has anyone on here retained or lost their drivers licence even though they have had psychotic episodes. Was it ever revoked forever? I know they give 1 year licences or 3 year licences just wandering what peoples experiences are?

I have paranoid schizophrenia with voice hearing every day and I still have my licence for life with no restrictions on it.

I was told to report being in hospital to the DVLA after my first psychotic episode. Each time I have been in hospital (4 times) I have surrendered my licence for 3 months and then applied to have it back. Each time I have applied it has been returned but valid for one year only. I have had it revoked once for failing to engage with the Mental Health Services. I am currently driving on a 1 year licence with a diagnosis which is on the psychosis pathway.

If you do need to apply for your licence it may be still legal to drive under Section 88 of the Road Traffic Act. There are specific criteria that must be met. Speak to your Doctor about these.

Im not driving at the moment as Im very unwell but need to surrender the licence as soon as I can face it. the doctors dont know anything, they just say "ask the dvla" which I already know thank you:)

Hi, you can surrender your licence for a minimum of three months and then reapply when both you and, importantly, your Doctor think it is safe for you to drive. Speak to the DVLA about this, they are usually quite helpful.

My experience has been that as long as my Doctor is happy for me to drive, the DVLA have been happy to reissue my licence.

One other thing, I reapplied using the M1 and D1 forms and there is nothing on these forms which ask about the duration of illness other than over the past 12 months.

Hi, yes I have noticed that. I have studied everything in unhealthy detail. Most of the questions I dont even know the answer to such as who my Pdoc is. I have lost a lot of capacity through being ill. can I open a chat with you?
