Made an introduction post yesterday. But I’m wondering if anyone here has or has had driving agoraphobia, specifically at intersections/red lights or in traffic where you’re “trapped” in between cars..
If so, please share where you’re at with this. I’m not sure how to change the feeling or perspective that I’m “trapped” when in these situation. The panic feeling that I fear most is the out of body/mind/vertigo-ish type feelings. How do you deal with these?
Thanks.

Hello outofstep, I have a particular situation, I have depression/anxiety/Panic issues, dont know what exactly I have but the point here is that, if I try to remember the times when I felt with most anxiety or panic was maybe when driving or after it.

Never thought nor made a connection on this, but a short time ago I started noticing this pattern, is not that only when driving I have episodes, but, for example, everyday at the morning driving to work is a time where I use to feel anxious, then again when I come back home from work with a huge traffic jam always use to feel panicky or anxious.

And even last yestarday, I got out driving to pick up my daughter and felt terribly anxious and depressed all the way.

I can remember other episodes of extreme panic been driving to anywhere, with or without trafic jam.

I'm starting to consider this as a possible factor, and will be more pendant about it to see if this could be a trigger for some reason.

I hate driving. Roundabouts are the worst thing for me, personally

Unfortunately, where I live, in order to get to and from work I have to drive. Bus would not get me to and from work on time, assuming the buses even turned up

I don’t drive. The idea of it freaks me out to be honest. I used to drive many years ago but due to a slower reaction time from medications, I stopped.

I have agoraphobia. It tends not to trouble me as much with driving, because my agoraphobia is social anxiety based. As long as there is no one in the car with me, I'm usually ok. I do avoid driving on roads where there is a lot of road construction or heavy traffic. I can understand how traffic jams could be potentially triggering. I don't usually have to deal with them...I guess if I was forced to put up with them on a regular commuting basis, I might try tuning the radio in to a favorite station or keep CDs in the car to distract me and help pass the time.
