I should've mentioned that when I was put on lithium (I am sza remember?), it really screwed up my already crook thyroid. I take thyroid hormone relacement medication, but I've been told the damage has been done. Dodgy underactive thyroid = weight gain as well as antipsychotic meds.

I would like to have a slim body of a regular walker, but i must admit it is also a fantasy. I have tried to get slim many times and never properly managed it. Even when I was at uni I put on weight and that was before getting ill. But compared to now, I was quite slim at uni.

That’s a lot like what happened to me. I realised at one point that there was only one way to get really slim, and that was to get really fit. I actually did this in the period before my psychotic break, I regularly went to a gym and did a lot of cardio workouts, and I got my weight down to approximately what it had been in my early 20’s. But my build is not that of a slim man, I have a big chest and wide shoulders, and it took a lot of work.

I’m very self conscious about my weight now, especially since I was very skinny (though unhealthy) before starting on my meds. I’ve jumped from 107 lbs to 164 lbs in about 4-5 months. It makes me feel awful, I’m so embarrassed when I look in the mirror and see stretch marks on my belly. I just want to be a normal weight again. :’(
