Depression is boring!

It feels strange to be bored but not want to do anything. When I get some free time I often find myself trying to think of something nice to do but nothing appeals. Often I end up doing housework - which I've never enjoyed but it needs doing, it passes a bit of time and at least I can be useful at the same time as being miserable! I spent a lot of time here on the forums yesterday afternoon because I was depressed and bored and just didn't know what to do with myself.

I consider getting on here a hobby.
It feels good to try to help others.

I tend to only get serious housework done when I’m at my wits end and trying to stave off the craziness in my head. A distraction I suppose. I don’t get bored, have been bored exactly twice in as many years. I’ve only felt boredom when I’ve been feeling mentally healthy and ready to take more on. Otherwise I’m pretty content mindlessly watching shit on netflix

I don't think depression is boring at all well for my self that is, depression is a journey for the rest of my life and how I control my thoughts and feelings everyday.

I think being bored adds to my depression.
It takes a lot to get motivated. Thats why I have started redecorating my bathroom. It gives me something to look forward too and for some good reason it motivates me. Next is my sons room. What a pit! Definitely needs new flooring.

Ditto @SoftRain it takes me out of my head and my problems to help others and there is an altruistic quality to that. It also taps into the positive neural network in my brain that can be dormant 🤣😂 and overcome with negativety, it's like a win-win element to it.

And there is your answer, HELPING OTHERS. By helping others we are helping our selfs as we can relate to the person we are helping so we give advice on how we manage to control it.

Absolutely @Bod it's work in progress isn't it ... Progression not perfection.

Plus positive thoughts as well when we help others, so say I am always feeling really down and have given up, it will rub off on others but if I am really feeling good then with my advice that can really rub off on others too.

Another thought is, if we are feeling really down then we talk on here and help others that can be good for us too.

I've spent much of my life helping others. I haven't really been able to take care of my own needs for a long time. I am exhausted. I am bored too, because my depression prevents me from enjoying anything.

So it is about time you try and look after your self then, as if you get worse then what happens.

I'm trying to. It's difficult when you can't enjoy anything though.

Yes it can be pretty hard to do I must admit, so we just have to try and push that bit harder.

Ah yes, the "Doing nothing is boring but doing something is a drag" mentality. I am like that all the time. There are things I like but starting to do them is very hard.

It can be very hard but that is just the time to really try and push our selfs, as motivation is so damn hard sometimes that we don't even try as we think it's not worth it as we will mess up but we don't know until we try.
