I am so depressed and hopeless today. I tried focusing on problem solving strategies for finding a place to live that doesn't trigger my reaction to wood burning smoke, and just keep going round and round in circles - emailing this organization, that organization and getting the run around. There aren't even any support groups for people with environmental illness in my area. Affordability is another kettle of fish. I'm ready to give up.

What is the problem with wood burning smoke? Does it trigger something bad for you? Keep looking and see if anything comes up. You are in a city so there must be places that don't burn wood around.

Hi Calypso, wood smoke irritates my throat, nasal passages and eyes. If it's bad enough, I'll go hoarse. Unfortunately, even in a city, the hearth industry is booming, and they are a powerful lobby group. Fireplaces, wood burning ovens, outdoor fire pits and "controlled burns" in parks. When I was working as a school crossing guard there were three houses in the vicinity that emitted such thick smoke from their fireplaces that it reduced driver visibility. It's a terrible, world wide form of pollution for which there are no government controls.
