Hi, I've not been on here for ages, I have not SH in 5 months but I will likely need an operation on my upperarm on scars that over healed. But my real message is if you take lithium please beware about other drugs you are prescribed that react together. I took lithium for seven years until January when I nearly died, due to being put on quetiapine and lisinopril by two seperate doctors in December. I felt unwell over christmas and started being sick on the 2nd January, I saw a number of different doctors over a 3 week period and was given more medication to try to stop the sickness and severe jerking, but nothing worked. In the end I collapsed in the night and an ambulance was called, I fitted for 90 minutes until they controlled it in recuss, I continued to have 4 more fits over 2 days. I was scanned and moved in and out of recuss all night. They then told me that my lithium levels were 2.5 and that anything over 1.5 was dangerous and anything over 2 was often fatal. Thankfully I'm still here and not on lithium, it is still hard going as they stopped most of my meds and some have been changed, but I have a lot to be grateful for. So please be careful.:scared:

goodness knows!
Thanks for sharing...

I was on Lithium (Priadel) for quite a few years.... despite all the regular blood testing,
I now Have CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease). my specialist has put this down to the Lithium
causing damage to my kidneys. Although I'm stable at the moment, the condition isn't reversible.

I don't think it can be a bad med, it is so widely used without apparent problems...
whether it was the length of time that I took it...(14 years) had an effect on my kidneys I'm not sure.
Or whether I was more susceptible than others has never been clarified.

It could have been that any form of Lithium may have had the same effect on my kidneys in the end.

There are a lot of 'ifs' there. You could have your mind put at ease by mentioning it to your GP / Pdoc next
time you see them. I hope I haven't worried you excessively??

The posts in this thread do show though the adverse effects that some drugs can have, unknowingly to us,
when prescribed without warning.

I agree different people react to medication in different ways, but sometimes doctors don't know enough about what medication can react to others. When I've been given new medication I read the leaflet and have seen advice about speaking to your doctor about taking it when on lithium. I have thought they know I'm on lithium so it must be ok, now I always check it doesn't hurt to be over cautious.
