I have never self harmed myself, but recently in days in which I feel quite off I wonder "What if I just do it?"
For awhile I have solely put glue on my arm and let it dry, as ive heard ripping it off gives the same sensations, I'm building myself up to self harm. I just do layer after layer of glue. However, I dont think I do it to feel something, I just do it to do something. I dont care whether it stings, as when its over its just done, therers no more feeling of pain. I'm not numb, i'm just bored, I just dont care what happens. Maybe its my low self esteem I'm not even sure, but I dont care about what happens - as long it doesnt hurt too. I have self harmed in other ways but want to try one specific method- i just wonder if I should. I know it's bad, and I shouldn't do it. But I still get the urge. How can I get rid of it?

If your bored why dont you find something more constructive to do with your time than hurt yourself. Try finding activities or projrcts to do or spend time with friends.

Self harm is not a habit you want to start.

Hi Igby, I think it's good that you're realising this is not a good thing to do, to build up to self harm.. you have identified your thought patterns before acting, which is the basis of reversing / preventing the negative behaviours.

I think you could benefit immensely from CBT. Especially since it's early and you have a chance to catch this problem before it grows into something larger. You need to question why you feel this way. Is it really just boredom? Perhaps it is really due to some more deep-seated issues that you're not yet acknowledging?

Seek out some CBT or talking therapy if you can..

If I really try to think about why, I usually do it when I'm angry or dissapointed with myself. CBT or therapy might be good, but my problems probably arent that important for those, thanks for the suggestions. Yeah, I realize its bad, but I also really dont want to stop it.

It can backfire real bad. Once you do it, it can leave a sign of it for a very long time. I also experienced that even loved ones can let you down because they are afraid of you may hurt them. Or people avoiding you because they have a feeling they cant help you.

There will be also people staring at you and silently judging. Or maybe not even silently. It's not a thing you can't explain, even if you try. Not if someone doesn't listen.

If you are thinking of harming yourself your problems are definitely serious enough to need help.

You REALLY don’t want to go down that route, it’s a addictive, horrible path which is extremely hard that stop (from personal experience) which will leave you scarred forever and forever reminded about this time of your life.

I wish I had someone in my life to warn me (show me the results) about doing it when I first started.

Thanks for the replies. After reading some of these replies, I randomly suggested therapy for me to my parent yesterday, since I know self harm isnt good. But now I really regret suggesting it, I tried convincing my parent that I dont need it today, but it seems like i'll need to go to a session, or talk to my parent about it, which I really dont want to do. Who knows, it may help. The past few days it kinda got worse, like the urges. I've been getting upset and really dissapointed both by myself and other people recently.

Can you try to draw with a pen in that area in those times instead of harming?
