I’m generally a working class meat head, but even I crave some quality and luxury every now and then, do you?

Would love to have croissants and champagne on a Parisian balcony, or relax in a spa in a 5 star hotel in Morocco, but I would settle for dinner and breakfast and a nights stay in a more local hotel.

There are a few nice hotels in the general vicinity that have great reputations and reviews, at least only a short drive. I fancy a dip in the pool, relaxing in the spa and steam room, quality evening meal, pimms at the bar and a cracking cooked breakfast in the morning having worked my way through the Kamasutra twice over.

Then after behaving like a gentleman for the day, drive back through the rolling Countryside back to porridge, string vests, and arguments about who ate all the crisps.:p

Why not try a few different things? Cook some snails & pheasant one evening with a bottle of champagne. Get a membership of the national trust & go visit some stately homes. Read some classical or more high brow literature. Go join a chess or book club. Go see a play or go to the opera & get dressed up. Plenty of options that don't have to cost that much money - think it's more a state of consciousness.

Build a quail coop at the bottom of the garden & you could have quails eggs for breakfast every morning, dressed in a green felt dressing gown & silk cravat.

Make a plaster cast lion and paint it gold and put it outside your house so it looks regal

Tell everyone you have a triple barrelled surname and you're actually called Benedict

Go on come dine with me and use some of the £1000 they give you for the food to hire your mate to be your naked butler

Go to Betty's and eat all the fruit cake samples

Hire a fancy escort for the night

So many options...

I am also a proud prole but sometimes just get an urge for something nice. If I can afford it I will spend £20 on lipstick cos why not if it makes me feel great and is responsible spending? I treated myself to some really nice make up when I had a period off the cigs - I keep it all together and call the things my treasures. Hmm that's embarrassing.
A few weeks ago I had to buy an outfit for a wedding (from Tesco and H&M but looked poshish) and other arf had to get some work clothes. We felt pretty uncomfortable in these clothes so decided to do a trial run by dressing up and having coffee at the nicest hotel in the area. It cost about the same as starbucks and was a laugh. We sat there talking bull**** gossip about how we might have to get a new nanny etc etc

Sometimes we go to plays or classical concerts locally, but I don't see that as luxury so much as culture/interest/hobby/bonding time. Once we went to the barbican which was luxury, but it was pretty boring and staid and I wouldn't bother again. I local good amateur theatre and you can find good live music locally whatever your taste.

But yeah I like luxury sometimes, and will sometimes buy small but good quality things because it gives me a lot of satisfaction. Even tho it always feels a bit class traitorish.

Thank you Bill Fish, I love your post. Ok, I've got an imaginary bath on the go at the moment, full of bubbles and free standing in the middle of the room. Immersed in foam and flicking the bubbles to see them floating about me. It smells very fragrant. Mmmmmm. D x

Well, since reading your post, I decided to get myself a curry delivered, having already eaten lunch out, so I reckon it has allowed me some treats for myself. x
