ARCH Recovery College

Equipping people with the skills and knowledge they need to manage their recovery, have hope and gain more control over their lives

A recovery college is a learning centre, where service users, carers and staff enrol as students to attend courses based on recovery principles.

Courses aim to equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to manage their recovery, have hope and gain more control over their lives. All courses are developed and delivered in co-production with people who have lived experience of mental health issues.

They offer a range of courses, including:

  • Living healthily
  • Spirituality and recovery
  • Recovery - the new me

Service users can be referred to the college by the TEWV team working with them via email. Referrals should be emailed to tewv.recoverycollege@nhs.net Staff and carers can refer themselves using the same email address.

It has 3 aims: Prevention, Intervention and Support of those bereaved by suicide.

Through our own personal experience of losing a loved one to suicide, IUCSF offers the opportunity to speak to other people who have been touched by suicide. We are also able to offer practical guidance and support on the procedures that take place when there is a death by suicide.

  • Suicide Awareness
  • Help and Support
  • Awareness Raising
  • Reduction
  • Education and Training

SHARE is a service focused on support of those bereaved by suicide and suicide prevention. This includes support for young people who feel at risk of suicide along with training around emotional and mental health, and the importance of 'SHARING' rather than bottling-up problems.

The Centre's aims are to deliver effective support and meaningful opportunities to people with mental health needs. We aim to help people live fulfilling lives in the community by offering opportunities for personal development, social interaction, and by supporting recovery. We are also committed to countering stigma and discrimination.

Mission Statement: Effective Mental Health support through LIFE SKILLS and OPPORTUNITIES

The Centre offers a wide range of informal learning based activities, supported by New College Durham and volunteer tutors. These activities including a Health Trainer service support personal development and recovery, and help to reduce isolation and social exclusion. There are over 30 activities/courses per week ranging from psychology to cookery, from football to glass workshops.

In addition the Centre has a Housing section managing 2 houses in central Durham for 6 males, a floating support for 4 people within their own homes and a Lanchester Road Hospital Discharge service. The centre also a caravan that is available to let for low cost holidays to people using mental health services in County Durham.
