Cornwall's Service Users Involvement... about to change.

There is changes afoot with the Service Users Involvement in Cornwall. The person who was the co-ordinator has resigned, but so has the person who was looking after East Cornwall.

It could be the change that is needed so to relaunch and re-engage service users. I rearing to go, though www.SunCornwall.com will stay on the back burner, if things do not improve.

My phone is very busy with so many people wanting to become invovled with being part of Cornwalls Service User Involvement Forums. If you are interested, then please free to make contact with me, either through this Forum or through the suncornwall website.

I hope by this time next year, Cornwall will be leading the way in Service Involvement.

By the way I do hope 2010 will be a good year for you all.

Hi Diddy,

It's not asleep..... just resting, getting ready for one almighty fight in Cornwall.

Are you from Cornwall, if so where abouts? I'm in the Carn Brea area, but am often travelling to all parts of the County, keeping up Service User Involvement. The official route for doing this was closed down about a year ago. But that hasn't stopped me from being active and making contact with many service users.

I am hoping the official service user involvement route will re-commence soon.... BUT WATCH THIS SPACE...... In the meantime could all of those who would like to be involved, no matter how little or how much, please make contact with me, either through this Forum or the suncornwall.com website.

Tomorrow I am working with a team from University of Plymouth, conducting surveys with service users regarding service provision etc..

Love to all.

Hey! Diddy,

If you look at the activities on the Local Forum page, you will see that Cornwall is the most active thread..... I have tried to set up a separate heading for Cornwall, I am willing to moderate along with anyone else who wants to join in.

In the past i have tried to get hold of the site moderator to set up a separate heading, but have never received a reply.

Take care

hi raj i live in falmouth in cornwall but used to live in tucking mill you have a good swimming pool there. to be honest after the way ive been treated i have given up on mental health serv ices i see a cpn but she never phones and we end up playing phone ping pong from one month to the next i have to go to my gp every time i want an appointment in the summer i was given 10 sessions of cbt therapy they told me i had paranoid schizophrenia and that there were people of higher priority than me on the waiting list. i was just left to get on with it. i feel that because i am high functioning i get no help WHEN I NEED IT. and its bad sometimes. i feel COMPLETELY LET DOWN by the mental health services in cornwall. ive never once been given any of the things i was promised community support worker i didnt even know i was eligable for a befriender. cheers diddy:unsure:

I agree with you Diddypinks...... I have tried to make contact on a number of occasions, so to set up a Cornwall area group, but I have never had a reply.

But people are still finding us.

Lots of activity starting to happen regarding Service User involvement within Cornwall. If interested, please get in touch. Hope by this time next year, a well oiled Mental Health Forum will be available in each major town in Cornwall. Watch this space .

I will keep this forum up to date as things change:tea: .

I'm at Oakleigh for a weeks respite.... start to recharge my batteries.

Regards

Help for BPD in West Cornwall

Hi there does anyone know what kind of resources/help/treatment options etc there are for people with BPD in west Cornwall (nr Penzance).

Thanks!
Hi Lou,

There is very little support anywhere in Cornwall. I am just getting involved with a service user / management forum. They have had some previous meetings, but it seems that they didn't want anyone aboard who knew too much about the condidtion.

There is just one person who is dictating the policy and this does not work. There is a new psychologist been appointed to look at BPD services in Cornwall. I do hope to be able to work along with him and a number of other people who wants to bring the correct services to Cornwall.

Being in West Cornwall, why not call into Sancreed House on Wednesday's. There are therapist there who are very informed and able to support BPD's along with most conditions.

I will be there in respite for the next two weeks, so if anyone wants to link up, I will be around for the next couple of weeks.

Do look at the events calander on www.suncornwall.com for much more details and how to get there.

There is also a mental / emotional support group in Penzance on Tuesday's, free of charge. Ellena and Val invite you to enjoy sessions in a supportive environment and learn a variety of basic techniques taken from Yoga, Shiatsu, Body Psychotherapy, Dance & Movement plus meditation Practice.

Hope that helps a little...... hope to see you and others at Sancreed on Wednesdays.

Take care.

Service user involvement

hi ray j what does the user involvment sceme involve? lol hope you enoy some down time diddy
Hi Diddy,

Sorry for the long delay in replying..... its not a good time of year for me, I have been struggling since last October after my daughters inquest. This is the time of year of her death, then three weeks later, the funeral and a week later her birthday.

I went to Oakleigh for the death anniversary and I am going to Sancreed for the next two weeks for respite and to work on the issues.

The service user involvement group has been in chaos for sometime, so I wouldn't want to involve anyone until all the things that are wrong has been sorted out.

This could happen within the next few months as a new co-ordinator has been appointed. Will allow him to settle in and see if he understands the meaning of Service User Involvement. If he does then I will be encouraging everyone on this Forum to become involved.

So watch this space:)

Take care

Cornwall's own page.... needed now!

i have not heard back from them please people give cornwall a name
:flowers: Hi Diddy, Thanks for trying to get a Cornwall page. I have been trying for sometime.

There is so many threads we could run if we had our own thread.

Cornwall is still the County with the highest suicide rates. Mental health services need a lot of change.

I have been a Service User Representative for many years and as Service User Reps. we achieved many good things in Cornwall. Mental Health services, this included meetings with the Primary Care trust (PCT) Adult Social Care (Cornwall Council), Social Workers & Care Assistants (CA's) and Cornwall Partnership Trust (CPN's, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Acute Care, Longreach, Bodmin Hospital, Respite Care, Carers, Care plans etc.).

It was Service User Involvement at the very best, started by Service Users, but has we grew we needed support and someone to run the funding side. Cornwall Rurual Community Council was approached to see if they would do the hosting. They did and were great, then management changed and instead of hosting, they became managing Service Users. No involvement in changing the way things were done..... now i ask how can a host organisation who is there to make sure we have a voice, just impose what they wanted to do.

This post is a little mixed up with your other question, but I do think our own page on MentalHealthforum.net, will also be a great tool to make sure the Service Users voice in Cornwall can once again be heard.

We have the experiences of our conditions, we live it daily, so who is the best people to help to develop what services we need?...... THAT'S RIGHT US!

Hugs for all :grouphug:

Hi Ray, thank you very much for your message and the information. I will definitely try to come to Sancreed House next Weds, and to the group in Penzance on Tuesday as well.
I don't have much faith in the mental health services in general from the contact I've had with them, so it's really good to know there's other things/support and people out there as well.
If I can help/get involved in any way I'd really like to. (I've signed up to the suncornwall website too).
It sounds like you're doing amazing things and thank you again for your message.
Best wishes, Lou

I agree

Hello Everyone:welcome: It's about time Cornwall had it's own area. There are a lot of changes taking place. We have some professionals who are stopping Service Users from becoming enabled. Not sure if the are a little fearful for their jobs.

Of course that not the reason why service users and carers need a better voice. We are often the experts of our own issues, but sometimes need others to help us through the crisis.

Have lots of ideas to share and how to move the who Emotional/Mental Health thing forward.

Well first post so better not bore you all to much.

(((((Huggie 4 all))))))
Can i be told of groups or carers groups disatisfied with cornwall council?
Please could you give me some support on the fb cornwall carers. There is only me asking difficult questions. i am liz or on face book olwen
thanks

(y)Have you found "What do they know". This site gives you info about asking the Government and L.As about well! anything. Sometimes they come up with useful answers and sometimes not. You might find numbers of M.I. in cornwall I couldn't in Devon.
Good work and good luck.
P.S> They Work for you is a site to your M.P.(y)
