North Cornwall

hello, i live in cornwall, north area.
:welcome: Dolores, Hope you can share with the forum your experiences of North Cornwall Mental Health and Social care.

Would like to know the sort of support people are receiving.

Also is there anyone who's intrested in service involvement, both paid and volunteering.

You can email me via www.suncornwall.com I have been aproached by various organisiations who would like help from service users.

At present I am doing service user involvement with both Cornwall College and Plymouth University, but I have many other requests, which i do not want to let down, but, I cannot cope with the number of service users who are involved.

Service User Network Cornwall, is still in a shadow stage, still waiting to see if The Service Users Forums will resume (the present state of play, not looking good). If the Cornwall Forums do resume, then Sun Cornwall would not be needed and would integrate back into the Forums.:mad::mad:

A recent development was an email that split the original members further from the new regime. we need service led involement and not management.

Must watch my blood pressure:LOL: so lets have a hug :grouphug:

take care

Hi! Everyone. I lived in Cornwall for many years, and when my son got schizophrenia he had some super treatment and wonderful support especially from the C.P.Ns. I know that schizophrenia is considered to be connected with violence, but most of those who suffer are nice people, and often quite shy. I tried for years to get some groups going but without luck as I also had an elderly Aunt and my husband had to have an amputation. so I was kept a bit busy. When a couple of my vertebrae collapsed I realised that I couldn't look after my son much longer, so moved to Devon to be near my other son.
Unfortunately the one with schizophrenia did'nt move with me, but comes up for half each week and is well occupied helping his brother with the garden and other odd jobs. He has a ladyfriend in Cornwall so spends the other half of the week with her. He met her in hospital and she has a different condition.
He is well medicated on Olanzapine and Kemedrine which :grouphug:suit him, and we have never had any difficulties with other people about his illness. I wonder if there are still some members who I know? It would be nice to hear hwo they are getting on. :grouphug:

Befrienders and service users in Cornwall

Congratulations Twylight I do hope all goes well for you and the pilot scheme. Cornwall partnership trust needs to save a lot of money before the gain Foundation Trust status.

Most people who had CPN's a year or so ago, now do not have any direct support, so a volunteer befriender should help. I do hope they are giving you full supervision, if not ask for it. It is not worth making yourself ill.

In the last six months, I have lost three very close people and I blame it for the lack of support. I know if put a lot of pressure on befrienders and peer to peer supporters, but without you, there could be a lot more suicides.

Cornwall's services and now the Service User Involvement is getting to a point of non-existence in my honest opinion. I am setting up a meeting with the Cornish MP's and the Health Minister Andy Burnham because I am so concerned.

I have been involved with Service User Involvement for around sixteen years and have never known it so bad..... we are not consulted. I am still having input via the Universities, but hardly any meaningful consultations with Adult Social Care, The Primary Care Trust, Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust (Accident Dept) Outlook South West (which is the first stop after the GP) or Cornwall Partnership Trust.

Only three years ago Cornwall was seen as a beacon for the rest to follow, now we seem like a dead duck. No money is now given to Service User Lead initiative, well a little over exaggeration (there is £7,500 to print and send out 4,000 odd 48 page, glossy covered A5 newletters, at least £4,000) before we start, there should be six forums four times a year with travelling cost, estimate cost with hall cost = £1,500, that leaves an almighty sum of £1,000 to facilitate 11 monthly service user voted rep group meetings , two meetings for West cornwall and two meeting in East Corwall, a total Cornwall once a year Conference and travelling expenses for all service users who would like to meet up at SNUG, which is the South West Network Group and can be held anywhere from Bristol to Lands End, the costs is shared between each Trust area. So perhaps Santa Claus does live, how else can proper Service User input be inline with The Government Guidence, or is that just another load of tosh. My meeting with Andy Burnham will need a lot of question answered.

How are other area's coping?

Sorry if this post is a little heavy, it's just that I am totally frustrated and depressed with how things are disintergrating after all the years of such hard work but many people.

But anyway.... Hope you all have a great 2010.

Cornwall's Service Users Involvement... about to change.

There is changes afoot with the Service Users Involvement in Cornwall. The person who was the co-ordinator has resigned, but so has the person who was looking after East Cornwall.

It could be the change that is needed so to relaunch and re-engage service users. I rearing to go, though www.SunCornwall.com will stay on the back burner, if things do not improve.

My phone is very busy with so many people wanting to become invovled with being part of Cornwalls Service User Involvement Forums. If you are interested, then please free to make contact with me, either through this Forum or through the suncornwall website.

I hope by this time next year, Cornwall will be leading the way in Service Involvement.

By the way I do hope 2010 will be a good year for you all.

Hi Diddy,

It's not asleep..... just resting, getting ready for one almighty fight in Cornwall.

Are you from Cornwall, if so where abouts? I'm in the Carn Brea area, but am often travelling to all parts of the County, keeping up Service User Involvement. The official route for doing this was closed down about a year ago. But that hasn't stopped me from being active and making contact with many service users.

I am hoping the official service user involvement route will re-commence soon.... BUT WATCH THIS SPACE...... In the meantime could all of those who would like to be involved, no matter how little or how much, please make contact with me, either through this Forum or the suncornwall.com website.

Tomorrow I am working with a team from University of Plymouth, conducting surveys with service users regarding service provision etc..

Love to all.

Hey! Diddy,

If you look at the activities on the Local Forum page, you will see that Cornwall is the most active thread..... I have tried to set up a separate heading for Cornwall, I am willing to moderate along with anyone else who wants to join in.

In the past i have tried to get hold of the site moderator to set up a separate heading, but have never received a reply.

Take care

hi raj i live in falmouth in cornwall but used to live in tucking mill you have a good swimming pool there. to be honest after the way ive been treated i have given up on mental health serv ices i see a cpn but she never phones and we end up playing phone ping pong from one month to the next i have to go to my gp every time i want an appointment in the summer i was given 10 sessions of cbt therapy they told me i had paranoid schizophrenia and that there were people of higher priority than me on the waiting list. i was just left to get on with it. i feel that because i am high functioning i get no help WHEN I NEED IT. and its bad sometimes. i feel COMPLETELY LET DOWN by the mental health services in cornwall. ive never once been given any of the things i was promised community support worker i didnt even know i was eligable for a befriender. cheers diddy:unsure:

I agree with you Diddypinks...... I have tried to make contact on a number of occasions, so to set up a Cornwall area group, but I have never had a reply.

But people are still finding us.

Lots of activity starting to happen regarding Service User involvement within Cornwall. If interested, please get in touch. Hope by this time next year, a well oiled Mental Health Forum will be available in each major town in Cornwall. Watch this space .

I will keep this forum up to date as things change:tea: .

I'm at Oakleigh for a weeks respite.... start to recharge my batteries.

Regards
