Hi, I have contamination ocd surrounding germs and is triggered by things such as public bathrooms. I work at a gardening company so I’m always working with my hands (using tools etc.) but I also have very dry skin and often have small cuts on my hands. I always wear work gloves and I even wear them when going to the bathroom. I typically touch door handles etc with work gloves and then take them off and put them back on once I’m finished. After this bathroom ritual I went about my day however the outside of the gloves in my head become an unsafe surface (they have touched door handles etc and I have no idea then what contaminants are on them.) What triggered my obsessive thoughts was when shortly after I went toilet and was driving i touched the steering wheel with these gloves on, then once taking the gloves off a small cut on my hand touched the steering wheel, I immediately put some alcohol sanitizer on it, should I worry about this? Often with my thoughts I know that they are irrational but my mind goes a bit crazy and I know that I am worrying because the gloves touched surfaces in a public bathroom of which I associate with being dirty and harbouring bacteria, germs and even stds (just how my mind is). I know that some germs/bacteria can survive on surfaces longer than others but I just worry about the what ifs (ie what if there was some small amount of blood on the Handle) I’m sure I read somewhere that hepatitis can be spread even if blood is dried.
