Hi all hope your all doing well today, for those who have read any of my posts you will know that I have previous diagnosis of clinical and more recently the possibilty of bipolar.
I've been to see the PDoc today withe the mood diary showing my mood changes, irritability, anxiousness and hallucinations, and each day I wrote a comment such as I'm really anxious today or I'm suicidal.
So he was writing stuff down and asked about my hallucinations and asked me if they were in my head or if they were coming through my ears,I said in my head, so does that mean they are not auditory hallucinations?
So now my preliminary diagnosis is generalized anxiety disorder, which to me sounds less severe than the way I feel,if that makes sense?
I have all the symptoms of bipolar but due to the anxiety being prominent this is me for now,I've been perscribed quetiapine, starting at 25mg going up to 150mg.
I know for a fact that this medication is used for schizophrenia and bipolar so now I'm relly confused, any advice for me anybody please?
Thanks
Jacq

Hi jacq, sorry to hear you cant get a clear diagnosis. I dont suffer with bipolar so cant really comment on that but all I would say is that I have suffered with GAD for many years and can confirm that it can be extremely debilitating. The point I am making is that GAD can be absolutely awful and has many symptoms to the point where I have felt like I was going out of my mind so I wouldnt rule it out altogether. As far as the medication prescribed goes it does seem a bit strange prescribing meds used for bipolar if that is not what they think you have. Tina

hello jacq, I think the quickest way you could get some clarification on your diagnosis and treatment, would be to go and speak to your gp. your pdoc will write to him/her, you can then discuss whats going on.

Hi thanks for responding, the thing is my psychiatrist holds everything close to his chest until he is 100% sure,he said he would be sending a letter to my GP about my medication changes but that's all he will say. As today he did say the preliminary diagnosis was GAD but personally I think he's waiting to see how I react to the new medication and if the psychosis and moods change whilst taking it.
The thing is I've studied psychology and have many books that state what this medication is prescribed for,and what mental illnesses its most effective in so I'm just unsure, but you never know it could work and change my life!
Thanks for the advice
Jacq

I wouldn't worry about diagnosis's / labels.

They mean F.A anyway. If the medication works for you, and that's the solution you want, then fine.

Lots of people embark on the bio-medical journey of trying to find out what's wrong with them - they're always still here, 5 years later, asking the same questions.

Hi thanks foir the response, yes I've been going through this for around 25 years now and I still don't have the correct medication or diagnosis yet, fingers crossed with the seroquel.
Official documents and disability forms always want a name though and generalised anxiety disorder sounds like I'm just a bit anxious ha ha I wish!
