Choline bad for Bipolar folk?

Hello fellow Bipolar lovelies. I started taking Sunflower Lecithin but it contains Phosphatidyl Choline and I was wondering if anyone knew if it was bad for bipolar disorder?

Did you buy it from a pharmacy or health food shop? You should always check supplements are ok when combined with your regular medication. I once took something for a few months that i later was told by the psychiatrist i shouldn't be taking with my SSRI.

There is so much info about this saying it is good or it is not good. I personally have come to the conclusion that i need to just eat a healthy balanced diet and keep active. I do take a multivitamin and fish oil supplement at times when i am not eating well enough.

I wouldn't risk anything else with my medication and illness.

I do drink lots of milk as i had read that way in the past it was prescribed for people with mental illness, in the days before medication! It is probably nonsense but maybe they thought back then that milk would sedate a tiny bit? A bit far fetched but cheaper than supplements and less of a worry.

Not familiar with this exact supplement. As long as you are taking you bipolar medication as prescribed and not trying to self-medicate with these supplements, I think it will mostly be fine.

However, certain supplements do interfere with mood stabilisers, for example folic acid reduces the effectiveness of Lamotrigine, so speak to your doctor about it.

Cool thanks guys. Lecithin is made by pressing the oil out of sunflowers then separating it into 3 things. I think choline raises your already elevated acetylcholine levels = mania?
But Iv also read its both good or bad. I wouldnt trust a pharmacist, a scholarly article or pub med or credible source.

I have a b complex containing 400 mcg of folic acid would that interfere with the 200mg of Lamictal I take?

The trained medical professionals I deal with in this area don't know about these things, they go to their computer and then tell me what it says and its not always right. Supplements and the FDA don't go well together I know that. They are just not documented so docs here don't always know.

But boosting your acetylcholine levels boosts your brain.
