Flippin Stephen Fry and his so called new book, get this, 'more fool me' and exactly how foolish is he? It should be called all about me and my idiotic narcissitic delve into cocaine addiction? How quaint.

Used to think he was ok, done some good TV and is funny. This new venture however, what was is he thinking, unless he has had to write it to get more money for his constant need and dependency on 'bolivian marching powder'?.

What is sickening is this tirade will probably not do him any harm, if anyone else gets caught with the white powder its jail and a slink into non humanity and into the shadows, cos no one wants to know them anymore? So why, why is it when so called 'celebs', 'share' their narcissitic descent into coke addled despondency and drug addition some applaud and he gets more pundits?

More fool him indeed, and he gives all of mental health a bad name, there is nothing wrong with him apart from a personality disordered view of his own ridiculous non-importance and the stupid expectation that any one would want to read his non entity descent into coke addled hell, all at a snip at £25, more fool the media for and him for thinking any one F***** cares?

beam me up scotty

All my old friends worship the ground Stephen Fry walks on. I always found him a bit pretentious.

Blackadder's great though.

I don't think he discredits the picture at all. Recreational substance abuse aside, I don't dislike the bloke but then I don't warm to him either.

The only issue I have ever had with celebs with mental health issues is that none of them go through the NHS system and thus are unable to advocate the lack of resources in that area of care. They go private and hence get more effective treatment.

He absolutely does discredit the picture, by insisting on indulging in a habit that may or may not exacerbate the 'symptoms' or cause the 'symptoms' of mental health distress, he is probably able to continue the habitual access to the substance due to money and fame, and the fact that he is 'protected' due to his perceived and accredited public 'adulation'. He gets the Police, bless him what a card no, to hand back his 4 gramm stash after being arrested for a 'drunk driving offence'? Who else gets that treatment NO one.

If joe blow gets caught with a smither of the stuff its banged to rights. Unless of course you happen to be a presumptuous, out of touch, wordy toff who acts bi-polar to get the pundits?

Get him to live in the real world of MH for a week, and see how long he lasts and claims he is bi-polar? Or go and write your misery memoirs and get another 100000,00000 advance, bi-polar my ADHD F****** D.

Surely the person who truly gives Bipolar a bad name is the very man that coined the term?

Bipolaren Affectiv Storung?

Karl Leonhard?

Nazi Psychiatrist?

Death Camps? Gas ovens? Lethal injections? Euthanasia? Eugenics?

Apologies to any Nazi psychiatrists out there. I don't mean to give you a bad name...

But that is his choice. He has the capacity for choice does he not? At the end of the day he isn't coming out and claiming that the illness is effecting him to the point that he isn't able to provide for himself like he has. Yes he has made a great career for himself, but just because he decides to dally in recreational drug use doesn't mean he discredits the Mental Health picture.

Where I work in ICU I have a Bipolar Patient who consumes 756 units of alcohol a week on top of his meds! How on earth he is breathing I have no idea, but is he not an example of the very person you speak of?

Many people on this forum (I included) indulge in alcohol against medication guidelines. Do I discredit the Mental Health picture? Many people with a vast array of medical conditions indulge in vices that do not help their condition, doesn't mean they discredit illnesses.

No-one here is that pure and that's for sure!

Did not for a second say anyone was, or, should be pure, never, what is shite is that it is Ok if rich and 'famous' to indulge a habit and then get credit, if joe blow sashays around the police stations drunk and secreting grams of an illegal whit substance, they get double time, and a record simple. He discredits MH issues, as most are not able to sustain a lifestyle for Being an indulgent fantasist and getting people to buy into it? Most are struggling to survive, be it jobs, stigma, relationship issues, lack of 'care in the community, no support, financial issues.

He is a charlatan, simple as and more fool anyone who buys his narcissistic bull crap and arse gravy. If those behaviours and personality represents bi-polar, then am begging to be ADHD. Oh and one of them is legal the other is illegal.

Plus how the hell do you know is pure and who is not? and what the hell constitutes pure?

I like Stephen Fry. I think he is witty and intelligent and i loved The Fry Chronicles. It's funny how different people like/dislike other people. I wonder why that is. I think of all the celebs with bipolar disorder, he is probably one who makes us look better. Kerry Katona, now she is one that makes us look bad. Addiction is in my mind a separate issue/illness, although i'm sure some would argue it's part and parcel. His addiction i hope people don't associate with bipolar disorder of course, but i think on the whole he's a good poster boy.

Have you heard of dual diagnosis?

How do you differentiate between someone with bipolar who has a drug problem, one the bipolar being the problem, & i suppose the drugs use being some kind of self medicating or a bit of fun, & the other who is a drug addict & they are faking the bipolar? Can't work that one out?

I think hes a funny guy.always have done.
Wether he has bi polar who really knows.
An old consultant of mine used to do a private clinic for celebs and told me once that 3/4 of them if they were nhs patients of his he would discharge them as they really didnt need that kind of support.
But then thats just hear say on my part and that dont really meen shit.
Its always gonna be difficult to tell whos really unwell and whos not. When the help there getting is private and on trend with the saying "oh you should see my therapist" kinda stuff.
But then i no some who have been in the priory on there dads medical insurance and they really wernt well at all.
As the saying goes
The tabloids never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

I like him, think he is very intelligent, witty and warm.

He is no different than a lot of us, other than he is more sucessfull and has enough money and supportive people around him to not have to really hit bottom.

I think you can be bipolar and be an addict. I am bipolar2 and am also a compulsive gambler. Sometimes I think the latter is worse that the former to be honest.
