Hi

I have posted this request elsewhere on this forum, but I thought I would post here too.

Please could anyone tell me about CBT, I need to unlearn some anxiety.

I have unlearned anxiety before, but not with modern methods, or a modern version of methods. Can I do CBT online, or with a group or both?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks

I don't know any reputable sites online, its hard to know which ones will be good or not. CBT is a technique of behavioural changes which attack the cause of anxiety. My friend who is a CBT consultant says that other therapies teach you how to seim, so have their place but CBT throws a lifeline to a drowning man.

I hope someone else comes along with better help.

I did a weekend workshop on Mindfulness based CMT - I think they call it MBCT

I liked it because we had exercises to do which made me aware of my mind and my anxieties, and then exercises to do to control your mind and become more peaceful and relaxed.

But I don't think you can get that from the NHS. People can get free CBT though through the dr. and I know it has been effective for a lot of people, and I think it lasts about 12 weeks.

MBCT might not work say if you're religion is Christian or Muslim or whatever, because the mindfulness part is about using meditation techniques to become aware of your mind and then to create peacefulness, so might go against certain cultures or religious beliefs, but it worked for me as I quite like Buddhism.

Thanks lowinmood

I have been given a number to call from the nhs link that I used to ask about CBT.

I am about to ring now, I will post here regarding the details of how I got on.

Basically they will ring me to do a screening test over the phone. This screening test will take three weeks to come though.

Then I can either do a group course or an online course.

I was hoping to get in somewhere sooner, but never mind, I will just have to wait.
