Can you think of any positives you've gained from your depression?

My depression made my appetite disappear so I've lost some weight (which I needed to) and I think my sugar addiction has ended.

I had a pretty good idea of what is important to me but my depression has made that even clearer to me now.

The nihilism that has come from my depression has helped my partner to develop a more helpful perspective on things that make him stressed. When I explained it to him, he started thinking about how the little things he worried about or got grumpy about really don't matter.

I have not myself dealt with depression but suffering in general is extremely important in our development as human beings. This Ted Talk might be interesting to you ;

How the worst moments in our lives make us who we are

Hope you find this relevant.

I think a lot of us are more empathetic after suffering from depression, and we often seek out those we see as victims or helpless, such as the homeless, children and animals, and are active and giving with them. Also, I sure as hell appreciate the days I don't feel dark as hell more than someone who hasn't experienced it. :)

Not me. Actually I know people who are exactly the opposite of that that seek out the homeless and victims...they are called "captn' save a hoes", and their intentions can be a lot more egotistical than people think and has nothing to do with empathy. LOL

I wish a therapist could help me, but I never got anything out of it, except a bunch of unnecessary drugs and I couldn't function at all.

I've become more adiment to know and understand that often you need to reach out as my brain mentally exhausted shut down and now through medication and therapy I'm aware that dark place I was in feels more light shining at me now x

Went through about half a dozen psychologists before finding a useful one. I didn’t realise different psychologists specialise in different areas

My depression caused me to see who I really am; that even though I makr mistakes and that my life is perfect, I can still be unconditionally accepted and loved by my family and the people around me. My depression also led me to be understanding, compassionate and considerate of others who like me have weaknesses and imperfections too. Also my depression made me to be appreciative and thankful of the small things in life as well.

I finally got some sleep. I was so manic I thought I could do miles. The depression kicked my butt into full gear with trying to avoid anxiety and ptsd. I thought I’d fall for it’s trap. But I got away. Thinking my way out. Then I just got tired. Not painfully tired. But a good tired. :rolleyes:
