I don't understand why suicide is " so wrong" to many people
I've been suicidal now for.... I guess 4/5 weeks (on this particular run), and people are so quick to tell me oh eesh don't kill yourself, it's not the way, their are other ways, isn't it?

no one can listen to me or tell me what their is to live for, so I really doubt it

I mean.. sometimes, I'm not even sure if people are really that bothered/ concerned.

from where I am, a lot of people I've spoken to about it (including professionals) seem to be very lighthearted about it

To me suicide is very serious and nothing to be light hearted about. Would they be light hearted about someone dying from a heart attack? Probably not. Well suicide is the equivalent in mental health it’s a life threatening situation that comes about from an illness.

I don’t see it as “so wrong” but that doesn’t mean I view it as a good idea. I believe that further judgement is not helpful when someone is in that much emotional pain that suicide seems like the only answer.

If you have a mental health team please speak to them .if you’ve been feeling like this for weeks you need some professional help. Friends are ok but proper guidance is what you need. Ive sent you a pm with some helplines on. Take care x

I’m sorry your care team are treating you this way. I have a hunch that they come across suicidal people so often they get hardened to it. That is no excuse for insensitive remarks though.

You do have the right to complain and even change your care team or at least in England you do. Might be worth looking into when you feel up to it.

Sorry your care team are not helping. I hear it so many times. Some people are lucky and the CMHT are good providing care but some just dont have a clue what your going thru and just think the answer is yet more pills

I think there are times when suicide is a reasonable response, but society doesn't agree; especially with regards to mental ill health. We have terminal physical illnesses, as I've noticed people love to make the comparisons between a broken leg and depression, so why not terminal mental illnesses?

thank you for your post

can't say I've ever heard that comparison, but can see how it makes sense

In my view, one can have perfectly rational reasons for wanting to take ones own life; as Schopenhauer put it, "it is quite obvious that there is nothing in the world to which every man [and woman] has a more unassailable title than to his own life and person". 👌

You can call it a cliche but i stand by the phrase " suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem" i consider loss of life a tragedy regardless of whether i know you or not. (Make exceptions for mass murderers and the like) I dont consider it less tragic or more acceptable because you take your own life instead of someone else.

Now im not telling you what to do or making a judgement. Its your life and do what you please. But human beings are constantly in state of flux. Emotions and situations never stay the same. Im sorry youve had a bad depressive month but whos to say something wont happen tomorrow that can change your whole attitude or perspective ? Their is new treatments and medications all the time. You never know when next thing could happen that could turn your life around as well.

I think the biggest thing as you touched on is not having a reason to live. Thats the key to giving in or fighting suicidal thoughts. No one can give you one, you have to believe in it for yourself. But I promise you it is out there. At the end of the day its how you decide to see things that creates your perspective, whether its positive or negative is up to you.

What exactly is a tragedy though? It might be argued that a tragedy is merely a literary trope; in life, there are no tragedies/romances/etc - only sequences of inherently meaningless events that we choose to emplot as tragedies?

If thats the perspective you choose to have then its your reality. But I assure you anyone who has experienced real tragedy and romance definitely doesnt consider it meaningless.

Ah, but therein lies the point - what work is the word 'real' doing in the second sentence?
