Thank you firemonkee, that was interesting. I would like to highlight some of the things stated in the part about dementia:

800,000 people are living with dementia at any one time in Britain.
They account for 11.2% of disability, which is higher than any other cause in the elderly. But the care is not anywhere near as good for all other types.

To get better information look up Dementia UK and NICE quality standards.

Any concern regarding the care of your relative in a Care Home or hospital, contact Care Quality Commission at Care Quality Commission | Homepage. They will investigate and not bring your name into the inspection. Only by complaining will things ever change - sad but true.
