Brasilia, Jan 14 (Prensa Latina) Brazil adopted today for the first time in its history the use of a substance derived from marijuana for medical use, reported the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA).
The drug, called Cannabidiol, is useful in the treatment of epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and schizophrenia, among other diseases.

The authorities reported that the consumption of this drug will not affect the health of the patients or make them addicted to the substance.

Brazil will ease the purchase abroad of the Cannabidiol, because there are not laboraties in its territory able to produce such medicine.

Of the 297 applications for the importation of the product received until the beginning of this month, Anvisa authorized 238, other 17 are in hold for the requirements on the part of the applicants and 34 are under review by the technical area.

Both, the doctors prescribing the medicine and the patients using it must be previously registered in a system that will be developed by the regional councils for Medicine.

I think Cannabidiol should be legal for medicinal use world-wide. From what I've just read about it, it's non-psychoactive, doesn't get you high and is safe for even children to use. There have been countless positive reports following its administration.

I haven't found anything about long-term effects, particularly if used for children, which would be interesting.
