Hi all

Im struggling with the compulsive side of Bpd. I have to eat. Once I start I cant stop. Anyway. Obviously the weight gain.
My point im trying to make is.
Yo yo dieting. Is this making me worse? Should I stop dieting and just concentrate on my portions?


Sorry if this triggers anyone. Doctors are unhelpful.

when i sit around home watching movies i feel the need to eat as soon as im even a tiny bit hungry. but when im out moving around i can go alot longer without eating. im more distracted maybe. or my body is more in moving mode as opposed to recovery mode at home. when i was young i used to ride my bike all day and not feel like eating. i think my body doesnt want as much food when its active. but then when i slow down i get hungry as maybe my body is trying to recover

I like this explanation. And it makes sense. And bpd heightens all moods. So when im hungry or just sitting about. The need is excessive!

Try going for walks or finding things that keep your mind relaxed but not idle if that makes sense. During the first lockdown that really helped me learn to be more mindful. I know I feel like I have to eat and can't stop when i'm stressed over whelmed. Idk if you can relate?

I can yeah. Its like an itch I cant reach sometimes. I want to just eat everything in sight. If I have a sandwich and I really enjoyed it I get this overwhelming feeling of wanting another one. This happens everytime I eat. I have to sit there and not move until the feeling has passed. If I allow it to win i would go make another sandwich or whatever I had just eaten until I felt sick. Then I would feel incredibly guilty and hate myself.

One thing I read about in a research paper is that we condition ourselves with behaviour. One example was watching a movie. If you tend to snack while watching a movie then when you watch a movie you want to snack.

Thats something I kept in mind all the time.

I myself started with counting calories and now have an ED so I am not the best of help :hug:

I agree with you there. Everytime I watch Harry Potter I feel I need snacks lol.
I had bulimia as a child so I try to stay away from dieting but I always get suckered in. So now I'm going to try and get back in tune with my body.
