Hi fellow forumers,

I don't know whether anyone else has posted a thread in this subject (I couldn't find one). I'm reading a book called 'Living Well with Depression and Bipolar Disorder'. I'm recently diagnosed and as I'm feeling fairly well at the moment and nearing remission. I'm gathering as much knowledge on our illness as possible to prepare myself for any further episode. The book is brilliant and covers everything and I would recommend it highly for newly diagnosed bipolar sufferers who want more insight and information on this illness.

Has anyone else got any recommendations of any books that they have found useful?

I found that "The Bipolar Advantage" by Tom Wootton is also very good, if you're into the "manic" way in which he writes!(y)

I found a book called bipolar for idiots to be informing though mostly written with regard to the U.S style of treatment. Still worth a look though.

Hello

I started a little blog here to bring together reviews about (fairly) relevant books.

You may find it useful and if anyone posts a review (and preferably sends me a message to say so) I can add it. :)

Bipolar II book Manic by Terri Cheney

Bipolar II book ...Manic by Terri Cheney
My partner read this book to me recently and it was great. I thought I’d share my opinion with you. The book is the memoir of this high-powered female attorney from Los Angeles who has bipolar disorder. She makes it very real..its funny, sad..written like a novel but I learnt so much from it and recognosed so much of myself in her story. Enjoyed you blog and will go off and read the books on there I havent yet read..many thanks for this.

Hi, ellemental

Good to hear from you and I'm glad you like the little blog. :) I've taken the liberty of adding your post to it. Hope that's OK.

Do you ever use the national MDF BiPolar forum?

That's an excellent blog with some great book reviews I shall be looking for a few of them in my local library thankyou(y)

A book I am currently reading is not a Bipolar book as such but it's written by Alistair Campbell who himself suffers from Bipolar disorder. It is called "All in the Mind" and although it's a fictional tale it gives a far more realistic insight into mental illness than many factual books that i've read. In my opinion it's well worth a read.

An Unquiet Mind changed my life... I never really considered my 'ups' as significant before I read it, but I've since had my diagnosis altered from unipolar depression to cyclothymia.

For what it's worth, Kay Redfield Jamison has written another book called Touched With Fire, which explores the link between the artistic temperament and bipolar disorder.
