Bipolar and College

I have had bipolar and psychosis for years along with migraines, but it has never affected my school work until A Levels. When I was a kid I never did any work, but always achieved A's and A*'s, so when it came to choosing A levels I was more or less told that im intelligent so I should be taking maths, further maths, physics, chemistry and biology. So I did, regardless that Maths was always my weakest subject.

My first year of A levels was a nightmare because I was mainly manic and convinced I would walk A Levels, until Jan when I released I had learnt nothing and had to take exams. I dropped biology before the exams and got BBC in my exams. This had a major
impact on me and my bipolar got worse - mania when I decided I didnt care or I would make up the grades later, and depression when I released I was failing. Also due to the migraines I miss loads of college. June didnt improve because of this, I actually failed Chem, got BB in maths and C in physics.

Last January, now only taking Maths, Further Maths and Physics I when through a period of mania and did some revision. I brought my physics up to and A but for some reason my maths grades dropped to D's.

I guess part of this post is my belief, as pointed out by my psychologist, that I have no control over anything. I actually did some work for maths and my grades got lower? I have never got below a A before A levels, and now everything is changing, apparently completely out of my control.

I also hate Maths, and trying to study a subject you hate is not easy. My June exams are going terribly due to depression and migraines, it seems like logic doesn't work. The more work I do the lower my grades get.

Anyone had similar experiences? Any advice? I dont understand how I went from being the bright (though antisocial) manic to failing subjects. Im scared after my June exams I wont even get into Uni.

Hey Grant,

It is hell being brilliant. You expect so much of yourself, so when you fall below your expectations it is hell. OK pull in your sights, and find what you are happy with. Learning is stressful and it takes resolution to win. You have got it, and you will win.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry if my post sounds a bit big headed or something, but I never really did the 'social' thing or got on with my peers, I just daydreamed and got good grades. Now I dont get the grades I need anymore, I sometimes feel like I don't have anything, so whats the point of my existence?

I just want to go to uni to do the subject I love, but what if I cant get the A levels?

I think this post should have been in the 'everyday life issues' section, but oh well.

This is probably just the latest issue of my depression, sorry for the rant.
