You keep asking the same questions.
Why not ask your son what he needs from you?

When in a manic episode, the best thing to do is keep your boundaries and continue to encourage your son to get help. Eventually he will come out of it. Once stable, that is when you can start to discuss his treatment and needs.

I was hoping the doc would see what was going on and deal with it for you but alas, they dropped the ball it seems, but I would still say get a second opinion.
Because of the nature of a manic episode he's going to kinda be in his own bubble where he thinks nothing is wrong and that he's being pestered by you and others unnecessarily. This is not your doing just the nature of an episode. You won't get through to him without meds until he comes out of this unfortunately and then is when you can try and speak to him properly about it all. The only problem then is that he might come out of this and into a depressive episode in which he doesn't want to talk to anyone then either, so you might be waiting until he's 'well' before you can get through to him. This could all be many months off, so, again, a second opinion from a different doctor is where I would be going.

Ok thanx. That is what we are now finding out. That we can’t help and he doesn’t want any as he thinks everything is great. It’s very hard for us to sit and wait for something bad to happen when we along with everyone else who is around him knows that he needs help w this. We all truely believe that he can manage this and live a life of happiness if he can do the things that everyone is talking about. Meds, therapy, meditation, healthy eating, exercise, sleep, routine, support system, friends and family etc.

But until he realizes there is even a problem, we have to just allow him to run its course.

thanx again!!

Also, the drinking really worries us too. As he has blacked out in public a number of times from drinking. We have been called to come get him by friends of his. He was also dropped off at our house by complete strangers who used his license to get him back home. It really scares us.

Something else to address when he's well enough to do so.

I think he needs a rehab program. Dual diagnosis. For substance abuse and mental health. It’s worth a try if he’s struggling. Drinking can be so bad for mental health.

Yes we agree. His father has talked w him about that and we have a few good ones here in the Twin cities but he refuses because he doesn’t think he has a problem.

Sometimes it takes an arrest or an ambulance for someone to acknowledge they have a problem. Then it may take another arrest or another ambulance for the person to admit he can't do this alone. Has your son posed a physical threat to you?

Ok. We would like to prevent that. No not at all. He is usually kind hearted and caring. Only now that he is manic, he gets argumentative and won’t accept someone else’s advice.
