I suffered terribly with with my eating habits (or non-eating habits as it was at the time),most of it was caused by anxiety and stress.
I have found over a long period of time that trying to identify the causes helped tremendously in dealing with my situation.
My advice would be to speak with your GP and hopefully they will be able to point you in the right direction and may be able to offer some counselling.
Keep posting on here and you will find lot's of support to help you along the way
Hmmm... its a tough one. The first time I presented with this I was kind of dismissed as just been greedy offered fat pills and told to toddle along. This knocked me back for a long long while. I brought this up about 18 months ago and I was given anti D's and talkin therepy which did help a little. I am know under a psych recieving CBT and regular Psych appointments and this is the first time I have felt believed in. It will be worth starting the anti d's cos they really can help though.
I would echo Integal's comments and also advise that you have every right to change your GP at any time if you feel unhappy with the treatment you are receiving http://www.patients-association.com/FAQS/15
I changed my GP some time ago with the advice of my Psych !
I'm worried that you say your GP has abandoned you. What do you mean? I've renewed respect in my GP since they turned up to me CPA review (don't know what the letters stand for but it's basically a multi-disciplinary review of my support) but I know that the help they offer can be a bit patchy (a friend of mine hates my gp for the way that they treated him while under his care).
I think if your gp has abandoned you then you need to get another one as it seems that the gp is the way into getting more specialist support. If your gp can't help then they should be referring you on to someone that can help.... grrrr - makes me angry!
Is there another Gp in your practice you can see.... You have every right to request this... even if they give the same advice they can give offer reassurance on anti d's. One thing I will say is that anti D's can offer as a slight appetite depressent and give you the will and worth to tackle your eating habits. I have found this in the past however with a few other life events thrown in I found my strength wavered.... eating is used for me as a coping mechanism so much so I sometimes dont even realise that I am doing it.
I'd say do what she has said and go and see another GP within the practice and see if you get a more sympathetic one. If you're worried about changing practices there could be people around that might help you, you could contact your local mind branch to see what services are available.
Good luck and remember there's always support here!
Honey, xx
