Best way to relax before sleeping

Hi. I have tested a good way to relax before sleeping. I manage to relax by imagining how I build my own perfect island, or a colony on a perfect planet. After you close your eyes, start relaxing your body muscles. After you feel that your muscles are relaxed, start visualizing a perfect island or a colony on a perfect planet that you can build as you wish. If everything works, you will fell asleep without even noticing it and your brain will have positive energy for all night. The point is not to imagine it realistically, but in abstract way. You don't have to know exactly how things work, just use logic to design a perfect place where everything looks and is build the way you want if you have the power to control materia and invent any kind of technology as you wish. If you start exercising, soon you will be able to relax completely and sleep well.

Have you tried to visualize other things to relax before sleeping?

I've never tried this for sleeping, but we used to do this as kids together. It was so fun! Now I find my kids doing it too. We all need to bring out the kid in us sometimes to help us unwind.

Its hard for me to slow my mind down for sleep. I feel like I wouldn't be able to complete the thought of visualization before something else distracted me.

I listen to music or nature sounds. Sometimes I visualize a night time scenic view in nature.

There are lots of good guided meditations on YouTube that have helped me. Lauren Ostrowski Fenton has many that have helped me get to sleep and relax. Also dhamma talks by Ṭhānissaro Bhikkhu, an American who was a monk in Thailand for many years and now is the abbot of a monastery (or 'wat' in Thai) has some wonderful talks and guided meditations that have helped me through hard times and relax
