Had my 6 monthly review with my nurse practitioner. Really opened up for the first time re aspergers/autistic traits. She said there is not much available in the area but didn't dismiss me out of hand as she gave me a print out to an Aspergers site.
What she did say however was that several things could also be explained by schizotypal.

I was wondering what other posters views were on the ASD vs schizotypal connection.

I'm diagnosed BPD and a close relative of mine has autism & dyspraxia, another close relative has dyslexia. I think there's got to be some correlation there from PD's/Bipolar, or at least some similar activity in brain chemistry!

Keep fighting them on this though, if you think there's an element of it there it's better to be diagnosed ☺

I personally think we're all on the spectrum somewhere ☺

It is hard for me to tell. One of the problems for me is the artificial exclusion criteria of the DSM/ICD whereby you can't have one disorder if a certain other one is present. Yet I have come across quite a few people who fit the criteria for both diagnoses.

I know that social anxiety can be a part of both ASD and schizotypal. Mine developed as a reaction to bullying as a teenager due to being physically and socially awkward. It seems the ASD symptoms(traits?) came first and the paranoia and social anxiety was a reaction to negative peer responses stemming from that .

hello-2.gif - I have HFA which is under the ASD umbrella. I also have Dyspraxia. I have no knowledge of Schizotypal so will be interested to read this thread for info.

Sorry to hear about you being bullied, that sucks! Speaking from experience, it's the worst and I'm sorry you had to go through it.

A lot of the criteriered 'traits' are so similar to one another it's so mad, it's same as the ideological paradox that if you're having chest pains, you go on WebMD and you MUST be having a heart attack 😂 Plus a million other heart conditions and you're also pregnant 😂

I'm not calling you a hypochondriac at all by saying this, it's just the guidelines for diagnosing mental health conditions are so vague and closely correspondent to one another that it takes years to get the answer, and even then it may not be the right answer.

& Surely you can be schizotypical and on the ASD at the same time? Although I really hope you aren't because that sounds like an awful thing to go through 😳
