Anxiety that hits so hard I feel like I’m dying

I’ve never had the guts to even join a forum before and it’s anonymous, never mind post elsewhere so please be kind.


since starting my own business a year ago my anxiety has gotten much worse, but not in terms of business stress but in terms of things like ‘what if that guy I sold a cow to 6 months ago doesn’t think she’s right’(I’m a farmer)

I have so so many irrational fears, which I know full well are irrational, but I can’t stop feeling like I’m being swallowed by hell. When I get this way I honestly feel like I could die at the thought of it (and that’s not to be dramatic, I really don’t know any other way to describe it).

I know these things don’t mean anything and are silly little ‘what ifs’ but I can’t stop the feelings that come with it.


Does anyone have advise or thoughts?

Hi,

Welcome!

What if anything have you tried to reduce it? Do you realise caffeine makes anxiety a lot worse?

Hi!

I have a few coping mechanisms that I use. A lot of it is mainly crafty and brain engaging stuff but I’m struggling recently to get them to work. A couple years ago I used to go to CBT which has helped a lot.


I do still have some caffeine but not as much as I used to

That's good that you already have some techniques to try. I would give up caffeine completely for a week and see what difference it makes. It's probably in more things than you realise.

Chocolate,
Coffee, black tea, green tea.
Decaf coffee and decaf tea has a little caffeine in as it is impossible to extract all of it out.
Coke, pepsi and other colas.
Energy drinks like red bull - check the ingredients.
Some other soft drinks - check the ingredients.
Some painkillers and medications - check the ingredients.

Also taking a good quality multivitamin and mineral tablet with high B vitamins especially B5 is good for stress and anxiety. Get a good quality brand like Viridian High 5 or Biocare or solgar B complex from a health food shop or buy online. Don't bother with a chemists cheap brand, you get what you pay for when it comes to vitamins. Rehabilitation centres and mental health hospitals use vitamins to help patients and I know from personal experience they really help bring anxiety down a notch or two.

Try doing some meditation, it seems difficult at first but is easy once you get the hang of it. If you can't then just sit in a comfortable chair and watch you breath for 20 mins - it will take take your awareness away from your thoughts and they will naturally lose their intensity.

If you have time then there are loads of yoga for anxiety youtube videos on the net you can try.
I highly recommend you seriously look into yoga if stress and anxiety are something you suffer from a lot.

Theres also food intolerances to take into consideration if you try all of the above and still have a problem maybe look int that. I have an intolerance to nightshades which has a horrible effect on my nervous system.

I’m not really quite sure

I have been trying to contact my GP to ask advise as I have never been diagnosed. I was transferred to CBT through mental health advisors at uni so I’ve not been diagnosed by a GP

Ok, it's just that you said you felt like you were literally dying which is one of the symptoms of a panic attack. Maybe look it up on google so you you can have a better idea of what is going on.
