Hi

I am not sure where to post so if its in the wrong place I apologise.

I seem to suffer some kind of anxiety when I go to pick up my youngest son from school, it annoys me so much. I walk to the school and I either rub my hands together or munch on the skin round my nails. The only way I can stop myself is to put my hands in to fists which then makes my shoulder and neck muscles tense.

I don't even know why I am anxious. It's not as if I don't do the same thing every day.

I am the sort of person that would rather be early or on time I absolutely hate being late.

I am on anti depressants which are working really well, when I had this anxiety today I started to think that I may have to change my tablets again, I don't want to do that because I have had so many tablet changes within the last few months that I just want to get on.

Anybody got any suggestions?

This could have something to do with repressed memories. Did you have any traumatic experiences in school or generally as a child?. There is little consistent evidence to support the idea that repressed memories actually exist & can have an effect on you, however no evidence can prove that they are not real.

Repressed memories are memories that are too traumatic or too anxiety-provoking to stay in your concious mind, and so your brain 'represses' them to your unconcious mind. This means you are completely unaware that these memories exist and anything that relates to these memories can provoke an emotional response, without you even understanding why.

There are two options i would suggest. You could either speak to a psychiatrist and, if they feel it is appropriate they can recommend some form of psychoanalysis which aims to bring the repressed memory to your concious mind, meaning you will be able to remember it and deal with it appropriately, however psychoanalytic approaches (such as hypnotherapy) are criticised for creating 'false memories'. Memories are unreliable and easily be manipulated, so many argue that false memories are created through suggestions made by the therapist.

On the other hand, you could try to trigger it yourself, for example, by asking others about your childhood or staying at your sons school for a while & looking around. Be careful though, if a memory does come back to you it could be extremely upsetting or cause a lot of anxiety.

Good luck, i hope this helped :)!

I was exactly the same still am. I will leave the house at the last min so I don't have to speak to anyone , my head races like mad. It started back in feb this year it was just pure anxiety even going out of the house. I do feel a bit better now. I have only just got diagnosed with bipolar disorder so I guess its part of that. I hope things get better for you. x
