Hello,

During the back end of 2020, I was caring for somebody considered part of the 'vulnerable' category, as a result of the Covid-19 situation. This involved spending a lot of time with that person, going to the shops, collecting medicines, exercising with them etc. I was unable to complete one of my uni assignments due in November, because not only did I have a lot less time available, but my mental health took a massive downturn. I was and still am feeling very anxious, as well as feeling stressed, having mood swings, panic attacks etc. Although my responsibilities in caring for the person have eased, I still am not feeling 100% at all. I have uni deadlines coming up in January; I will attempt them but I am worried they may not be to the best of my ability. Any advice?

Regards

Try and break things down into manageable pieces. When faced with an enormous task, it's very easy to get anxious and stressed about it. Just do your best within the time constraints, that's all you can do. And remember, even if you have a bad year, it's still early days, and you still have your whole life ahead of you.
My daughter has taken a year out of her education to cope with mental health issues. It's done her the power of good.
Well done for looking after a vulnerable person, you have a good heart.

Welcome to the forum! :)

I agree with @hicks; speaking with your professor or department head about your situation and asking for an extention or a leave of absence might ease your burden. We all need rest, especially in this time of uncertainty.

It will put you behind, but it might be possible to do catch-up classes later on. Just focus on what's best for you right now is my advice.

Take care...
Liz
