so I went there the other day and today
and the other day I was feeling paranoid
and I crashed my trolley into the toilet and broke the door handle

well today something completely unrelated happened
that I bought a light bulb,
and it set off the alarm when you go through the doors
so I said to the security guard I've just been through the manned checkout

he looked at the receipt and in the bags and couldn't find out what it was
then he narrowed it down to my backpack
and it was the light bulb in there but I didn't know that at this point

he looked at it and said oh thats because the security tag remains active
even after you've paid for it !

so it continued to set off the alarm while I got myself out of there
not buying light bulbs in there again !

Supermarkets send my anxiety shy high and cause a lot of panic to set in.

yea. i long time ago, when i was young i know this was wrong but i use to steal from walmart, all the time, but man i was lucky i never was caught. I got addicted to it too. Everytime i go in walmart i have anxiety, because i think they are on me, because of my past stealing, but reality there are not, I told my therapist about this. Yea i haven't stole from walmart since then. I felt horrible and guilty about it, I learn from my mistakes. dont steal its bad, you can get in huge trouble, im very lucky that i never got caught. omg thanks god.

thank you Beast

I wasn't actually shop lifting, it was a light bulb that set off the security alarm
after I had already paid for it

I just won't buy light bulbs there again !

You did nothing wrong, the alarm just went off thats all, you can still buy light bulbs from there but if you feel more comfortable buying light bulbs from somewhere else i totally understand that completely.

im in a good mood generally
but now terrified of the supermarket
since the door alarm was set off by a light bulb accidentally
becuase the tag is not deactivated by paying

the payment was on the receipt fortunately
but I'm scared that something else will set it off accidentally

apparently this can happen with light bulbs and clothes

I've found a good supermarket coping technique is to find a check out person who is almost always there when you do your shopping who you can build a rapport with, the young ones who work in the supermarket while they're doing their a levels and are bright, intelligent, understanding, curious, considerate and full of all the joys of people as yet unspoiled by the world and society are the best

If doing that doesn't make you anxious and you are able to, then it could help take the anxiety and stress away from going to the supermarket and it might actually become something you possibly look forward to

You need to have a No2 though, who you go to when your usual check out person isn't there

I have 3

k thanks for the suggestion Comorbidity

I think there are different people there each time
but yes I am on chatting terms with some of them

hopefully if I don't buy light bulbs or clothes there
it won't trigger the security tag

The benefit of establishing a rapport with two or three of them is, you could say perhaps tell them about your lightbulb incident for example, making light of it if you can while letting them know that kind of thing stresses you out, and then if you regularly go to any of them, the right type of people, they're very likely to make sure the light bulb incident doesn't happen to you again

Because going to the supermarket once a week is my going out, my 3 know a lot about me and my disorders and they're all very good with me and recognise my different moods, because I've told them about them and are always very calming and I actually look forward to seeing them
