Lets say person a has anxiety and goes to the doctor and is diagnosed with cancer which is non life threatening (if treated immediately) if left it would spread and lead to death - could that person refuse treatment - can they have treatment forced upon them - would it make a difference if the person was on ssris? X

This is a hypothetical question and not about me in any way

I think this person needs to think long and hard about the decision.

Do they really want a long and painful death?

The Mental Capacity Act (reviewed last year in the House of Lords) can be used if a patient is deemed incapable of making a reasoned decision about their physical health. Think a patient would have to be severely incapacitated in mental health terms before any such decision was brought into play though.
What would happen is that a GP or specialist would do their best to encourage a patient to have treatment if they were considered to be able to make a decision.
Hope that makes sense!!

My understanding is if they are mentally capable of making that decision then it's ok.
If not, then treatment can be forced upon them. I'm not qualified enough to give an honest answer
