Anyone else start self harming after the age of 30?

I've had diagnosed depression since I was 14 but never harmed myself until I was 38. Now I'm a few months shy of 40 and I can't stop. I see a psychiatrist and therapist. I know why I'm doing it, but I just think I deserve the pain.

hi ,welcome
I think from what I know it is quite common for people in their 30s and 40s to self harm ,although not as common as younger people
I personally began self harming at a young age but I have seen a few people on here talk about their self harming as an older person
you are very welcome here
I hope you find this place useful
love Lu xxxx

I didnt start self harming until i was in my late thirtys after having a breakdown i hit rock bottom and found relief in self harm. I too was like you, i believed i deserved the pain that self harm brings.
Im glad you are seeing a therapist, i do believe that it is good to talk.
Have you felt any relief from opening up about it?
Keep talking

Currently 41 and started this year, it's a way of easing the pressure in small, manageable doses for me.

A little relief. Strange, but I'm not ashamed of it.

Well I'm 49 and have been self harming since teens,,, sometimes I can go months without then feel and endless need to self-h. I also imagine or dare I say fantasize about being badly injured, like a mini film in my mind of being injured in an accident and going into great details of my injuries, when really I should be dreaming about a nice holiday in the sun !
I believe the best way not to self harm is not to be in love situations that make you do it in the first place but if only it was that easy.
