I was on another mental health website but it was not working out as there were lots of problems over there so someone told me about this site and said you guys helped her a lot when she was a member here. So I thought I would check it out.

I am 26, from the UK, suffered from depression, generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder and possible cPTSD for about 7 years now. It has honestly destroyed my life and I feel like I am boxed into a corner by it and can't live my life or achieve my goals or anything like that.

I don't help myself as I refused help for a lot of years and "self medicate" with alcohol which I am trying to stop. I have been making positive changes recently and accepting help from others.

I am happy to meet you all and will help others when I feel able.

Hi Undergroundboy,
Welcome to the forum,
Well done for making positive changes, have you considered trying some specialist therapy?
Looking forward to reading more of your posts.
Hugs

Hi Mayflower7,

Thanks for your kind welcome.

I cannot afford private counselling or anything and the only thing on offer in my area is 6 sessions of CBT from the NHS which I don't think will help.

I am trying to go down the route of using charities such as contacting the Samaritans and when the virus is over going to some of the groups at MIND.

Then hopefully I can get myself in a position where I can get back into work and pay for more specialist treatment.

Hi

Some NHS areas, like mine, insist on CBT at first but if you engage with that, afterwards you can get an assessment for more in-depth help. Perhaps it is worth checking what happens after CBT?

Hello and welcome to the forum. I agree that having CBT is the first step to being offered more therapy. That is what I had to do. It is really nice that your friend found support on here. You will too. :)

@bpd2020 & @Coolname. I never thought they would bump you up to the next level of therapy after CBT. It might be worth asking my doctor about this. It is a 6 month wait for CBT anyway so worth asking if there is anything after that. Thanks for your help :)

Ah, thanks! It doesn't look like I will be in work any time soon. I did used to be able to hold down a job but not anymore. I am working on it though, I am going to start volunteering 3 days a week at the charity shop and go from there.
