Default Love me till my life is done

      Alzheimer's Poem

Do not ask me to remember
Do not try to make me understand.
Let me rest and know you're with me.
Kiss my cheek and hold my hand.
      I'm confused beyond your concept.
I am sad and sick and lost.
All I know is that I need you to be with
      me at all cost.

Do not lose your patience with me.
Do not scold or curse my cry.
      I can't help the way I'm acting,
Can't be different though I try.
Just remember that I need you,
That the best of me is gone.
Please don't fail to stand beside me,
Love me till my life is done.

      beautiful poem

That's the most scary thing, I think, getting Old Timers disease.

We get old, sick & die - is the natural way of things.

i want to live as best & well as i can in the meantime, & have as interesting a life as possible.

Am sure that physical death of the body isn't the end anyway.

saw this exhibition of poetry made by a poet in residence at a care home for those with dementia

The Hard Word Box | Free Word

      Where the heart is

This was my favourite cause it had a sense of the anger and injustice

      the hard words

Look, let’s be clear: don’t imagine

there is anybody here who enjoys

dribbling poetry. If you think we’re

      holding stars on our tongues

      that’s your eyes want testing.

If you hear music when we grunt

      you haven’t understood exactly

what it is we needed to say.

      You might enjoy the ruins

of our grammar, the way we

chew up our nouns to song.

It’s not your hand that’s getting

      thinner on the blanket.

Please don’t ask us to speak

the hard words all at once.

My Uncle Bernie just died last week and it was hard watching him go down hill the last couple years. Such a brilliant man he was. He never lost his skill at speech and always made his needs known. Now I know he's in his astral body and no longer has the illnesses and pain. He didn't have Old Timers disease. I always wanted to feed him because his hand shook so much and most of the food never made it to his mouth. He always went to the salad bar restaurant with me even when he could no longer carry his tray.

I wish I had a poem to share but I only have my own poems and none are about old age or Alzheimers.
