      No, it doesn't help at all. Lots of people are getting drugs, people who don't need drugs. Most of the GP's time is spent giving lots of people these drugs. It complicates the provision of services and benefits. The whole ''Everyone is mentally ill'' thing does nothing for stigma - it makes it worse, and gives the public a misconception of what the experiences of severe mental illness are really like. I remember the old ''You don't have to be mentally ill to experience mental illness'' in the outpatients department. Really? I would hope that the only people seeking treatment at a mental hospital actually are mentally ill. Unless we move away from the pathologising of normal behaviour/emotions and a quick fix drug culture - I don't know how it will all improve?

      I apologise I can't read long posts at the moment - just wanted to say "Hiya Rasselas - Great to see you again!!!"
      "How do you spell LOVE" said Piglet.

      "You don't spell it, you feel it" said Pooh

      Where do normal behaviours and emotions end and abnormal ones begin? Is there a definite dividing line or is there a finely graded continuum shading gradually from 'normal behaviours and emotions' to neurosis to full blown psychosis and all points in between?

      If it's a gradual continuum then knowing where to let be or where to intervene/pathologise is a complex and inexact science.
      Should nothing be done in that situation or should the best be done with what is available?
      Yet inside there is this perpetual nagging doubt;
      the feeling we are possessed by a 'subtle lack of togetherness''.

      If we really want to say what helps in mental health, there’s a straightforward mantra and it goes like this:

      “Some people find medication helpful. Some people find therapy helpful. Some people find medication and therapy helpful. Some people don’t find either helpful.”
