      Hi Lee-son

Sorry that your post has gone without a reply for several hours but welcome to the forum.

It sounds very tiring with your behaviour and I do have some experience of working with teenagers with Oppositional defiant Disorder. There may be many people who have never heard of ODD. When were you diagnosed with it? Have you been offered any professional help? The teenagers that I've worked with have had help through CAMHS but I am wondering whether any support has been put in place through WAMHS

Do keep posting and, as I say, sorry for not posting earlier. I'll keep an eye out for you posting again

      Take care

      Hi sarah

Thanks for your reply, I've not been diagnosed yet, I've got a lot of the symptons for ODD and anxiety, I have doctors appointment tomorrow, will be first time I've spoke about how I feel as in person to person, what ever I have has cost me dearly and needs resolving to salvage my life, but ODD in adults is not very common?????

      Regards

      Hi Lee

I am glad that you have your appointment tomorrow.

Did you have these difficulties when you were younger or have they developed more recently? ODD is something which has only been recognised fairly recently compared to difficulties such as ADHD, etc. From what I know, many adults will have also had it when they were younger but it's gone undiagnosed. Others will have had it but, due to a range of factors, the symptoms of ODD are more heightened, perhaps because of stresses through work, money, relationships. Some may acquire ODD later in life attwG think, from what I know, that this is quite rare. There are normally signs earlier in life. How do you feel about your appointment tomorrow?

I've prob had this as a child that has gone untreated, symptons I have now I had as a child. But help back then was limited, as for appointment I feel very very nervous, almost feel ashamed or embarrassed of what I may have.

      Thanks

I can understand that you feel nervous. If it's the first time that you've spoken to someone about it, it's bound to be difficult. Doctors generally understand what it's like to open up for the first time and are good at putting you at ease. There will, of course, be lots of questions but this is crucial as there are many difficulties with symptoms that overlap. If you think that It might be hard to get started, you could always write down the experiences or symptoms and share your list with the doctor to get the conversation started. Is it with a GP, psychologist or psychiatrist? The reason for asking is that a GP will need to refer you to mental health services for this type of diagnosis.

Yes. GP is definitely the place to start. And, yes, when they say 'so, what can I do for you?' there is that silence when you think 'er.... Where do I start? Shall I quickly run now? Why oh why did I think that was a good idea?' lol!!! But you've taken the first step making the appt so well done you! I've seen adults be diagnosed with difficulties such as ADHD who are now seeking help because this problems are significantly impacting on their lives.

Good luck tomorrow and make sure that you go!! Will send positive vibes. Let us know how you get on and do post later today if questions arise or if you just want contact with us who've gone through that first time of opening up.

Do feel free to send me a private message
