LOL Rising Phoenix - you did really well to jog so far and to keep going!
It is great when the endorphins do kick in - I can feel mine working in just a small way at the moment but hoping that as my fitness improves the better things will feel.

Well, it's been a little while since I posted but I'm now going for 30 minute walks most days and overall I'm pleased on the exercise front. Still using the aerobic step occasionally and using the stairs to my flat (although sometimes I must admit I really want to use the lift!). I seem to have suddenly lost more weight so in total i've lost one and a half stones now - 1/2 a stone since I started exercising, but there's still a long way to go.
Hi.
Thanks for starting this thread. I was looking for some encouragement and that's exactly what I got! I've just been out for an almost 40 min cycle and I feel great.
I already do karate, which I can thoroughly recommend, and I'm a girl, but need to do something else to get my heart rate up. I'm trying to do one different activity each week, over and above the karate, so one session a week cycling, the next week a swimming session and then the following week a 30 min exercise video courtesy of YouTube. Then repeat. At least I'm hoping I won't get too bored.
Well done on walking 30 mins every day. It's amazing how you feel afterwards.
One thing I could suggest which has really helped me is by only having fruit/veg before lunch time. It may not be for everyone but I have a juicer and every morning I have a fresh veg/juice drink (look up Jason Vale on Amazon) and then bananas, apples etc before lunch time. I used to have a bowl of cereal with milk and then tea and biscuits at 11am. I've definitely lost a bit of weight through doing it. Also, the only thing I have after 8pm is a cup of warm milk with a tsp honey. It fills me up and stops me having, yet again, biscuits with tea. They're only a few small changes and I haven't changed what food I normally eat between 12 - 8pm, but those small changes have definitely made a difference.

It's been a while since I've been here as well, moving house and everything-everyone has been doing brilliantly!I'm signed up for the SHINE marathon through London, which I'm doing in September for cancer research, so I'm gunning it at the moment to train! 2 hours weights and cardio in the gym every day, and twice on Tuesday and Wednesday, plus swimming 5 times a week and endurance walking to keep the distance-I'm up to 20 miles now, which blows my mind!I have to eat 6 times a day to balance all the training, but I'm loving it,and it's for a good cause, which spurs me on all the more![]()

Want to get in really good shape without spending too much time and money ?
It's really very easy ...a skipping rope and some press up bars will give you everything you need just so long as you moderate your diet wisely.
I do 15 mins skipping virtually every day. With this I also do 70 or more inclined press ups every day.
This works. And it only takes 20 mins or so out of my day.
You can buy all the new fangled machines you want and you can join expensive gyms and buy snazzy outfits to go with it.
But all it really boils down to is doing it.
The press ups will make your upper body rock-solid while the skipping will make you quick and nimble.
If you devote about 20 mins time of your day to skipping and press ups' working your way up gently you will soon see the benefits without having to disrupting your day-to-day schedule.

Well I'm rather sheepishly coming back here to admit that I got off track and stopped exercising for some time and have put back on one stone. It just seems that if I'm not actively fighting the weight gain, it still piles on due to the meds even though I'm on a low dose.
I'm glad to see that other people here were faring better. I'm sorry I haven't been back for a while. Time to start psyching myself up to try again.

I'm still exercising but admittedly not as much as I was in Summer. The cold weather is a real put-off. It's easy to lose your motivization when it's cold outside.
I like listening to Rocky Music when I'm out running to keep me motivated.
If you have iTunes, you could give the free NHS "Couch to 5k" podcast a go. It starts off at nice slow pace and builds you up and eventually you can run 5k without stopping. Proper hardcore!

So I just got back from my first try of the NHS "Couch to 5k" thing.
There was me thinking: "I've been jogging all summer, so the first week should be a cinch".
It wasn't. It was really hard! Halfway through I wanted to give up. But I went the full 30 minutes. Come on!
9 weeks resulting in a 5km run without stopping. This is going to be tough!

Just finished session two of week 1. Phew. One more to go for this week.
Bring it on!
