Default **Please read before you post in the self harm forum**

Hi, Welcome to the Self Harm Forum.

Please read this before posting, especially if you are new to the forum.

An important part of the Mental Health Forum's reason for existence is to allow people to share their own stories which will in many, indeed possibly all cases, be upsetting.

We would NOT want to discourage this. However, we have guidelines to make sure that this forum is a safe place for all to contribute.

Please be aware of guideline 4.

In particular the following highlighted part:

We do not allow very offensive or harmful material, including explicit descriptions of self-harm methods, pro-anorexia posts and mention of specific suicide methods.

Specifics will be edited or deleted in line with guidelines, or at forum staff discretion.

We do this because research has shown that people can be influenced by, and often copy methods of self harm they have read about. Therefore for the safety of all our members we edit out all details of methods of self harm.

If you feel that the guidelines have been broken, or you think some material is offensive, then please report the post using the report form which can be found at the bottom left hand corner of every post.

      Thanks for your understanding!
