      Default Sons conversion disorder

My son was recently diagnosed w/ CD. Took 2 months, way to long IMO. He deals w/ full body convulsions, unexplained pain, loss of speech, inability to hear or respond, along w/ some others. There isn't anything about this that makes a whole lot of sense to me. The situation is hard to get a handle on. We have found that muscle relaxants and morphine, will take him out of the episodes that he has. Working on counseling w/ Psychologist, and medication w/ Psychiatrist (Zoloft). Frankly, I feel like the medical community has done little to help him. Like many others, we feel on our own. I'm very sympathetic to the many other posters I've read about on this forum. If any one is interested I would enjoy e-mailing back and forth about our experiences, perhaps offer some encouragement. My prayers and good thoughts are w/ you all who are suffering.

      Hi dad,

I agree it does take too long to get anything done anymore. But unless you are one of the few elite that's it.

When I was born the population of this country was 2.5 Million, How many now? 7 Million? The whole ship is sinking under the weight of so many people. It is a fact that MH problems are connected to population pressures. The tighter we are packed in the worse the situation gets.

I read somewhere that if all the people that have MH problems were put into hospital there would not be enough left over to run the show.

And it can only get worse, and people wonder why I am depressed!!!

      Bortu,
Hello back. You sound like a deep thinker. I am happy to see some folks being active on the forum, it looks like I'm going to get to know a few things about Conversion Disorder.
P.S. You don't want to see a picture of me. LoL

      Hi dad,

Why would I not want to see a picture of you?

I did some research on conversion disorder and I came up with this:

      MEDICINEPLUS usa

      http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/medlineplus.html

Some doctors falsely believe that conversion disorder and similar disorders are not real conditions, and may tell patients that the problem is "all in your head." However, these conditions are real. They cause distress and cannot be turned on and off at will. Research on the mind-body connection may eventually increase understanding of these disorders.

      Regarding conversion disorder contact:

And from an older post on this forum:

If you have Conversion Disorder then ask your GP to refer you to:

      Neuropsychiatry Outpatients Assessment & Treatment,
      The Maudsley Hospital
      Outpatient Dept
      Denmark Hill
      London

      Hope this helps.

Hi Im marie and im 23 i was diagnosed when i was 21 and over time he will learn to cope with it and i would say control it but i start to know when something about to happen with certain syptoms i suffer from memory loss, loss of sight, hearing, speech, paralsysis fits blackouts halouinations flashbacks confusion i can't remember them all. I personally feel that not enough medical professionals understand the condition and also the other conditions that go with it and some doctor litterally do not believe that this is happening to you happened to me once my partner who is also my carer dealt with it. Mine is because of stress and with therapy they say that it can get better but I am just trying to have some form of a life i had to give up work and my partner has to but i hope over time it will go or at least be more managable. Can i ask how old your son is?

I dont really understand conversion disorder but it sounds really distressing. What is the standard treatment. I hope more professionals get a better understanding of this disorder. I guess if you arent getting the support you need then try and find someone who can truly empathise and be there to support you through this.

      Hi Marie,
Thanks for replying to my thread. Many of your conditions seem in line w/ Conners. Conner is 12. We are now 6 months into the illness. It seems matters for him are well under control, and there is talk about lowering his medication levels and eventually eliminatings meds. No doubt his condition was brought on by Anxiety. Whenever a anti-anxiety or muscle relaxant med is used his need to go into convulsions goes away. We use the services of a psychiatrist for meds, and a psychologist for therapy and developing a overall strategy for his treatment. I hope the best for you , and I will pray in your situation.
